Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Spent most of the weekend helping my son replace the timing belt on his Impreza. I had some time while he was at work on Saturday to weld up a speaker hole in my passenger door.

Thank You, I'll tell him. He used to own a body shop, has done body and paint since high school and just enjoys it in his spare time. He told me he would do it if I didn't give him a timeline.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I ordered my e-trac tie downs for the Ramp truck. I got six mounts and straps and rings to install on the sides to tie down the loads.
Plan is to drill and tap the sides to mount the singles to the bed rails.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Well I put my spark plug boot protectors on and worked on my fuel filler neck. The boots where a pain as they are 90 degree boots which makes putting the protectors a pain. After the first one I came up with a better way to do it. Used a wooden dowel to guide the boot through the protector. Once I did it this way the other seven were done in the time of the first one. Hope the filler neck goes this easy once the hoses arrive.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Depending on which ones you buy. I have the 1000lbs working load per each one and 4000 breaking for these. These will only be used for the golf carts and bikes.
I will have grade 8 bolts to attach the clips to the truck with.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Changed the starter with a ACDelco from Rock Auto and worked on finding oil leaks as I was getting quite a few drips just sitting in the garage in idle. After getting transmission leaks fixed it was much easier to just see the oil.
I bought some Tracer Products Engine Oil dye and a uvBeast 365nm MINI - Black Light UV Flashlight. Man, that made things easier! 1. The valve covers bolts were all loose, I could likely almost have been able to remove them by hand. Used a driver to hand tighten the bolts (not a ratchet). I've read these need to be checked after re-installing the covers with a cork gasket. I'd think the shop that replaced my valve seals would have not left them loose but they didn't say anything about checking the bolts after some time either. 2. On the old pan the larger bolts were loose, to me it just seems like my brother forgot to tighten them down when switching between oil bolt sizes. The dye clearly showed oil around the bolt heads - especially on the back by the starter. So I went from quite a few drips of oil dripping just idling in place to no drips in a 30 minute idle test. Then after my test drive I dropped two dots of oil when I got back. Likely seeping coming around the oil pain at the main bearing area (at the peak of the curve it seems). I did tighten the diver side back oil pan bolt just a bit more too after all that too. The bolt head had some new oil on it (passenger side didn't). I don't think it is the main seal itself - there is no oil anywhere except for a straight down drip from the old pan. There is no oil on the torque converter/flex plate, it is dry as a bone. I tested / drove without the cover as that darn cover hides the source, so that helped too.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
This may be sacrilege but I worked yesterday on converting my old oil bath breather to accept a traditional air filter element. Like it for the classic look but want something a bit less hassle. Thus far I have gotten all the old element cut out of the top cover and am grinding/sanding it smooth. Will clean it up, paint it, and determine what size WIX filter will work and be off to the races.

I had the tracks in my trailer also when I had it. This is for the Ramp truck flat bed. It has 3/8" tube steel sides so I plan to drill and tap the the top and screw them in. This will only be for the golf carts & bicycles. Just to strap them down.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Made some headway on the console. Holes for cups are done as is the cubby . I’ll make the box for the cubby tomorrow . I made the hole the same size as a din radio so I can add it later if I decide to go that way. Vinyl isn’t glued down was just checking the hole size for the cup holders . Next I need to add the USB ports still waiting on them. Also adding a 30 amp power port

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Installed a new heater control valve, plus reconnected with new heater hoses. Prior owner had bypassed heater core.
Not pictured, new fuel filter, cap, rotor and coil. Next up points/condenser, and plug wires. Found I had separate point and condenser and ordered a combo set. That'll teach me to order without looking first... lol Oh and the preheat tube from exhaust manifold to air cleaner.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I guess this fits in the "What did I do today" category. I drove the 67 GMC into work today since it's been a couple weeks. The speedometer on that truck has never liked the cold and makes some godawful screechy noises on the highway til it usually warms up and quiets down. This morning it decided to make even louder noises which I didn't think possible, the needle was whipping between 40 and 80mph before the needle broke off the base, then the base where it attached to the speedometer flew off and the screech got even LOUDER! So I did the only thing I could and went faster! Haha! It took a minute or two of this ridiculously loud howling but it finally blew something apart inside and all was quiet again. Sigh... I was actually glad cause now I know what to replace. hehe. I never knew a speedometer could make that loud of a racket. Exciting start to the day.
