Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
Got my fenders back from sand blasting and sprayed them with some epoxy primer till I can get some work done to them. Then picked up a couple parts from getting powder coated.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
powder coat, damn ... is it worth the extra coin? i assume they do the heavy cleaning at least, so that's a time saver.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
Ya it was sand blasted first then powder coat. Worked out cheaper than me buying gloss black paint for the few pieces that are going gloss black.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
I'm needing to replace window channels as well. Also thinking of the vent window rubber as well. I see you have a complete, new assembly vent window. Is that for an easier installation or were your vent windows in poor condition. It appears the window channels are riveted through the window rubber which looks difficult to replicate?
Any tips are appreciated, thanks. And by the way, nice progress! |

Yes new assembly. The doors I have only have cranks and latch parts. It is much easier to replace as one, but they are not cheap. I put new assembly's in my other truck and they have been working great for 5 years. Sorry not much help.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
sorry to hi-jack your thread, but when replacing the vent window rubber, you can make a cut on the INSIDE edge of the seal, where the swivel pin is.(don't cut all the way through, just to the hole for the swivel pin) This will then allow you to install the new rubber without removing the window and only leave a seam on the inside of the window.... make sense?

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
It was a big Weekend! Friday night I got the truck fired up with the key, it had it's own fuel tank and cooling, the alternator even worked and everything lol.
Then Saturday I bled the brakes P.I.T.A. and Sunday I drove it out of the shop under it's own power and got it all warmed up. Then today I got the reverse switch brackets made and mounted. https://youtu.be/BxH8DPh9g0k https://youtu.be/PEuGFRLcCoo

Way to go! You've built something very unique, very cool,
You're going to love driving that rig, puff your chest out a little and give yourself a pat on the back! Nice job! |

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
VW (and the State of CA) basically forced up to surrender our 2012 Passat TDI; When i see these conversions i wonder if one could be the engine from ours. When i think back about it the engine (55mpg!!) was the best part of that car.

I really wish I could. It could always be done later. 4" wow I could put the whole turbo in the 4" lol. If I was keeping the truck that would be a very good possibility tho.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
LOL yes, but we are going to drive it as our own till it sells.
My first '52 is not for sale. The funny part is this truck is getting the color scheme that I was planning for mine when I built it but it ended up the way it is.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
Well after much thinking on how to make the original gauges work with this motor, I could not justify the cost to fix them so they would work for me.
So this is not my idea but executed it my way. Turned out way better than I was hoping. Problems with stock was: oil pressure gauge to low, Amp meter, temp gauge did not work. First they are 2" gauges Pry off the trim ring Take new gauge guts out Grind off lip on housing fuel gauge is done in second pic. Use 2" hole saw Align gauge housings and tack weld in. Reassemble gauge guts

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
looks great.
That is what I tried to do with my S10 gauges, but should have done it with new gauges, like you did. Well Done
