Promised myself no more and then this happened

I had this 72 Burb ages ago. Wasn't a pretty rig, and while I did drive it a fair amount, it let me down a couple of times.

Brakes went out downtown Seattle at commute home time (35ish miles). Had to use the parking brake, course the handle came off. Interesting drive home.

Headed to another board members place down in central Oregon, pulling my trailer to pick up a truck. Engine puked, but was able to nurse it enough to find a U-Haul rental place. Rented a truck, loaded the burb on the trailer and pulled it home with the U-Haul.

I was pretty PO'd at it by that time. Burb languished in the barn, covered in bird poop. Switched owners a couple of time, ended up with a buddy. I had gotten over my anger haha and wanted it back. Nope he was keeping it. It sat for ten years give or take. A few parts were removed, tarped some of the time.

We were talking a little bit ago and I said there were only two truck I wish I would have kept, and one of them was the burb ... He sold it back to me!

I dont have any recent pics, just old ones of it sitting in my driveway back in the day.

Im not letting it go, but I did promise myself no more than one truck at a time. Ive recently started (slowly) working on my C30 again ... Just have to wait and see haha! Maybe two trucks is ok =)

Re: Promised myself no more and then this happened

Weird looking at the pics. We got a new garage door. House has been painted. BB Hoop is long gone. I dont even remember that plant climbing up the house.

Built my shop where the tent is, dang that's really looks different!

Oh I also got these wheels back with the burb.

15x8.5 and 15x7 ... Correct lug pattern for our trucks.

Re: Promised myself no more and then this happened

You can always send it to Kansas and not have to worry about it returning home at a later date.

Seriously nice to see you get another shot at it I remember this one from back in the day when I was restoring my GMC and always liking it

Glad you finally got it back. I hope it won't take too much to get it road worthy again. Keep us posted on the plans, and some fresh pictures....

Re: Promised myself no more and then this happened

I've already sourced an engine, mildly built 350. I have nice TH400 I had built by TCI that is still in the plastic.

I'm going to start sourcing misc. bits and pieces. But I have to figure out the C30 first.

Burb probably wont be home till mid August.

Re: Promised myself no more and then this happened

That's a great one to get back. You'll start up a build thread won't you? I think two trucks or more is great. Isn't just two a little light for your locale anyway?

Re: Promised myself no more and then this happened

No hurry to do anything with it. Just accumulate parts to make it mechanically sound.

Funny thing is I'm not the only one that wanted the Burb, now I've had a couple of people asking me if I want to make a little money. All of my car buddies know my history haha.

Its not the least bit pristine, has all the common rust issues. My guess is that because its a 72 and a C10 with front and rear air is the main reason folks are interested. I like it because it was my first experience with owning or even riding in a Burb.

Re: Promised myself no more and then this happened

Mark,

This is great news. Every time I go to Bills, I have to walk over and check this Suburban out. It is a unique truck. Beautiful color combo and a unique mix of options. Front and rear air, tilt, yet radio delete. I was encouraging Bill to build this one as it was a shame to see it outside. Glad you are going to save it! I always say no more, and then they seem to follow you home. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

What’s up with the C30?

Burbs are the ones I really enjoy.

Got to thin my trucks down so I can get more Burbs....

"I did promise myself no more than one truck at a time"

Well, it's a good thing a Suburban is a SUV and not a truck

I'm heading up north today to pull the tarps and see what its going to take to bring it home. I made room for it out at the family farm but I really dont want to leave it out there. I have no room for it at my house since my C30 is there in my "shop". I dont leave stuff outside at home. It would drive my honey nuts and probably my neighbors.

Re: Promised myself no more and then this happened

I posted pics of it in the first part of this post. Looks pretty much the same except the rust marches on. Still havent brought it home. Its tucked away safely right now and I have other things on my plate these days.
