Re: Before and After ... Lets see your trucks transformation.

My 68 has had quite the transformation, but all of it done at home with help from my grandfather. Currently its next update is a motor/tranny swap. Going to a 327 and a TKX 5 speed from the current 350 and Muncie 4 speed.

Re: Before and After ... Lets see your trucks transformation.

I have been working on this truck since 2019. This was purchased by my Father-in-law back in 1983, then passed through 2 Brother-in-laws, then to me. I picked-up the job of what was going to be a simple repair so it could be driven, to a full frame-off restoration.

Re: Before and After ... Lets see your trucks transformation.

Question - How big is the ride quality difference between the half ton, and 3/4 ton trucks?

Does the 2500 ride notably rougher? Or is it just a little?

that's a tough question to answer cause everybody will have an opinion.my 3/4 ton truck up in post 86,rides like a dream, certainly solid feeling if that makes sense.it isn't rough, even on the dirt road where we live,it doesn't pound or smash and i suspect loaded with some weight might tame it down some but i've never had anything in the bed(i spent too much time making the paint work so nice)i've had several of both,1/2 and 3/4's.i personally like 3/4 ton trucks so that's what i have.i do notice on a truck, whether it's 1/2 or 3/4,a difference in coil spring or leaf spring, preferring leaf spring trucks.i had a 3/4 ton 72 Suburban years ago,was a rescue squad truck in Graham Co,NC,still remember the foot tall green letters down the sides saying so,a coil spring truck, rode like crap,i thought and anymore than a bag of groceries in the thing,it was dragging it's butt down the road.of course it was worn out and i knew how to fix it but it didn't ride anywhere near as nice as this leaf spring truck.i don't know if this is any help or not?my truck is heavy, solid feeling, low miles and 4 new 10 ply Firestone Transforce tires.on a good piece of road, smooth as glass but not horrible or harsh on a dirt road or poor condtions, but not a 1/2 ton,you can notice the difference but not a problem or objectionable at all.hope that helps?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

I guess if the truck rode too rough for me, I could always put bags on the rear. I believe you can bag a truck and still retain the stock ride height. Although I'm not sure how that would pan out when it came to towing.
