Spitting coolant

Is this normal? My 70 with a 350 is spitting coolant after shutdown. Has done it the last 3 times I drove it. Maybe I just over filled the radiator and it needs to level out.

Re: Spitting coolant

If you are not running an overflow coolant bottle, then I believe you are only suppose to fill the radiator to about 1 - 1 1/2" from the top.

tdangle is right on this! Mine did the same until it found it's level.
I checked it cold yesterday with my finger...about 1.5" down.

Re: Spitting coolant

Good advice above... though if it were me, I would add an overflow tank. It's cheap, easy to do, & the radiator will always be full. You will also need a radiator cap for a closed system.

Re: Spitting coolant

I zip tied an old beer can under my overflow hose. It catches the dribbles and adds some under-hood class.

Nice! Mine is a full resto so I'm not looking for beer cans under the hood. Maybe a Shiner bottle since I drank a lot of them during the resto. I will take a look at an overflow. Thanks!

The overflow tank is about the only stock piece under my hood. I definitely recommend it.

How old is your radiator cap and what pressure is it.

Nice truck! If mine looked like that, I may rethink the beer can too!
