Re: Recent purchase
I like the rear bumper. Does anyone recognize it and know what it came off of.

Re: Recent purchase
I'm thinking that is a custom job unless someone else knows. Looks a bit like late 70's and early 80's Malibu station wagon rear bumpers but those the lights were a bit more outboard.

Re: Recent purchase
Buddy came over to help last night. Battery showed 12.7v. Started the truck and Died immediately when we disconnect the neutral. Checked the alternator. Was only putting out 11v? So we checked all terminations and the voltage regulator. Cleaned contacts on the voltage regulator. Put it all back together and then showed 13v on the alternator. So hopefully that fixed the dead battery issue

I recently heard some folks I know talking about one theirs car problem. They were contemplating doing this........of course it was a pretty modern car, also. I butted into the conversation, told them DO NOT, DO NOT take a battery cable off ANY vehicle while it’s running, EVER!!! Not sure it sunk in... |

Re: Recent purchase
Im interested to hear why. I would agree on a vehicle with computers and fuel injection.
But there's no electronics to hurt on my truck. Seems pretty safe to me. Check to see if the alternator is putting our enough voltage to run the truck and charge the battery. Please explain as if I'm 5 so I learn and understand.

Hi and welcome to the boards from a fellow Saskatonian. I actually saw your truck heading North up Warman Road today. There are lots of 67-72's in our area and I oragnize a 67-72 Meet Up a few evenings through the summer. Did you buy the truck local as I have never seen it around town before.

Re: Recent purchase
Looks to be an 80's style El Camino rear bumper. I cannot tell exactly, but think the bumper is stock width in the photo. Some folks narrow them, then rechrome them so the bumper only goes to the width of the box sides

Re: Recent purchase
That's exactly right. Additionally, the alternator may still work, but the diode(s) could be what we call "walking wounded" in the electronics industry, and simply fail later, at a really inopportune time. One might get lucky doing this, but if a rebuilt alternator is taken in for warranty work and diodes are popped, there will be no warranty on the thing. Popped diodes are a clear indication that the battery cable was pulled while the engine was running. Take it to a qualified mechanic. Note that not all persons calling themselves mechanics means that they are qualified, btw.
