Steering wheel needed
I am putting in my 65 Suburban a floor shift 69-72 truck column and I need a nice steering wheel to go on top. Thanks in advance!

Re: Steering wheel needed
I also have one but it won’t work on the column unfortunately.
Or if it does, I haven’t figured out how to put it on there

Re: Steering wheel needed
Is there a specific color you’re looking for? I’ll have nice blue 66-68 wheel as soon as I come across a correct 72 blue wheel.

Re: Steering wheel needed
Column is a 69-72, a saddle or black would be good. Can you paint them?

Re: Steering wheel needed
I suggest open a post in the 67-72 Pickups section with pictures of what you have going on, and get help getting the 65 steering wheel fitment fixed. Even if you don't want to use it, you will probably need to resolve the problem in order to fit a 69-72 steering wheel. You should be able to use early 60's steering wheels on a 69-72 steering column. I have one on mine and it fit like it belongs there.

Re: Steering wheel needed
Dmjlambert, did you put the 60-66 turn signal switch and etc in the column? I didn’t think to do that.

Re: Steering wheel needed
I used the turn signal switch, canceling cam, and other components that were already in the 1969 steering column, and just put the early 60s steering wheel on it. It is a direct fit and just works.

Re: Steering wheel needed
First, remove this plug/contact assembly, you won't be needing it but you do need to use the hole.
Then put the cancelling cam on the steering column. Then put the steering wheel on and the nut that holds the steering wheel down. The tower and contact of the cancelling cam sticks up through the hole in the steering wheel that was previously occupied by the plug/contact in the first picture. The rest of the horn button assembling happens after the steering wheel is on. Here is a thread with some discussion of assembly. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...14#post8452614 If you have any trouble with it, I recommend opening a fresh thread in the 67-72 Pickups section with pictures of what you have going on. It will get more attention than this thread in the parts section. |
