I made some from 1/8" or so rod from Lowes. Just bent to shape of core and rounded ends back in to from a loop to hold screw. I've had them in for close to a year with out any problems. Sorry but did not have the camera at the time to take pic's.

Fab eh!
I could but? Are the ends flat with a hole for screws? I guess this would press the backets around the core and fasten to the plastic housing?

I just made a loop on each end for the screw to go into. Screw goes through the box and into the bracket on each end. Just get the loop small so that the screw will grip. I used some new small sheet metal screws. If you had a press I guess you could flatten the end of the rod and drill a hole like the org. I did a small drawing of how I did the loop.
