Unhappy Warning, this thread not suitable for some viewers

Warning, the following photos are very graphic and may be hard to look at...

These photos were taken of a train derailment in 71 or 72 someone posted these on a truck group that I belong to on Facebook. Unfortunately these never made it to their final destination. I apologize if these have been posted before. But, wow look at the job they did securing the vehicles to the train cars those ain't going nowhere.

I wonder if they simply wrote them off with insurance or if they salvaged which trucks they could and still sold them new?

The Suburban looks to be intact. I'll take that one, please...and I'll even pay MSRP for it!!!

That's the way the high schools in the Saint Louis area got cars for use in the auto mechanics class, in 1975 a train carrying new Buick park Avenues & Electra's rolled over.
I started high school in 1978 and the cars were still there they had stickers on the windshield that said not to be sold and not for road use.

Re: Warning, this thread not suitable for some viewers

GM is self-insured, Thanks to the government once it has been involved in any kind of wreck it is totaled and can't be sold. These trucks were sold as scrap, probably to an auto scrap yard. I was at a yard that got a load of newer trucks that had to be cut into. Nobody could buy the front and rear half of the same truck. If they sold them that way they were afraid they would lose their contract with GM. I got some nice parts off of a brand new 2000 Silverado.

Re: Warning, this thread not suitable for some viewers

I bet there are more than a few guys here on the forums that could take any one of those trucks and put them on the road with no way to tell it fell off a train!

I have seen some crazy skills on repairing rusted out old trucks on these forums. Fixing rust has to be much harder than fixing a bent up truck that feel off a train!
