AAW factory harness question

I have a question. Actually it’s a few wires that I can’t figure out where they connect to. I purchased and installed the American Auto Wire factory harness some time ago on my 58 Apache. Since the weather has been nice lately I decided to get the interior finished. While looking under the dash I noticed a few wires hanging. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
1.The pink wire comes from the turn signal harness
2.The dark brown wire is located center behind dash
3. The light tan wire is longer and the only “ hot” wire of the 3

Re: AAW factory harness question

My AA harness has what the wire goes to written on the wire itself, does yours not?

Re: AAW factory harness question

No, these didn’t. They were purchased from Classic Parts
I think the Hot light tan wire goes to the horn wire, just has a different connector. I say this because the horn wire isn’t connected to anything yet. Not 100% sure though

Re: AAW factory harness question

american auto wire website has the diagrams for all their kits on line in PDF
you can just go the website and get the diagram for the kit you bought.

I am sure the color code matches thru the years.

Re: AAW factory harness question

but guessing
brown center dash is radio maybe
pink near steer column is gauges hot wire maybe
horn hot wire is normally green. you make the ground connection via the steering wheel button.

Re: AAW factory harness question

I spoke with Aron from AAW, he help me figure some of this out. The confusion comes from Part numbers from other catalogs being a little different than AAW’s numbers.
1.The Pink wire actually plugged into the ignition switch.
2. The brown wire was thought to be for electric wipers but it’s not hot.
3. The light tan wire is hot and thought to be for the horn. It does have a different connector, square vs barrel type on the single black wire coming from steering wheel bearing.

I also asked about wiring the cigarette lighter but they don’t offer the harness, I probably need to start asking here about that next.

The brown probably radio if its hot only with ignition on.
The HOT horn wire comes from the HORN relay output on the fuse box goes directly to horn and is usually green on AAW kits.. You will never have the hot wire on steering wheel. The steering wheel wire provides the ground to the horn and only when button is pressed.

Tan could be gas tank gauge wire but those are usually hot when on ignition.
What kit did you buy?
and have you traced the wires back to fuse box. its usually labeled and a good indicator.

Re: AAW factory harness question

clarifying the wire from steering wheel for horn is a ground wire to the relay which this when activated provides hot feed down green wire to horn. Horn itself is grounded to chassis.

Re: AAW factory harness question

All wiring harnesses are AAW bought thru Classic Parts.
I guess I have to trace each wire to the ends, thanks
