Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
I have a 67 short bed small window that we are trying to get the body lines to match. The problem starts at the bed to cab where they are an inch or so high. we were able to shim the cab (new mount kit) but by the time we got to the new core support we had over an inch of shims - obviously not right.
This truck did come with a new bed, and I'm wondering if they put a 68-72 bed on instead of a 67. Can anyone take some measurements for me from the top of the bed to the body line and the bottom of the bed up to the body line? Additionally, the bed seems too 'wide' for the truck at the cab area. I'd appreciate width measurements there too. I do appreciate all the help on this most frustrating day. |

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
The body line would be the same on any 67-72 bed. New bed or another bed? With no pictures it's hard to say. The bed just sits on the mounts.

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
Sounds like you may have installed 3/4t rear cab mounts. 1/2t 2wd are the only trucks that use different (short) rear cab mounts. 3/4t 2wd and 1/2t, 3/4t 4wd use the same (tall) rear mounts.

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
Only difference between a '67 and a '68 short bed [step or fleet] would be the Side Marker Reflectors. Model Year '68 would have them. MY '67 would not.

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
Im assuming you mean the area in this picture that I attached.
A. It could definately be the cab bushings are too tall. They should only be an inch or so tall. Also the rear cab mount should be a smidge higher than the frame rail. B. Make sure the first bed mount is correct. On a short bed it needs to be the height of the 2nd bed mount back on a long bed. There should be no shims under the bed where it mounts to those. C. The radiator support bushings are just a bit thinner than the cab bushings. They mount similar and should be the last ones you do. If your bed is right as I stated, then your problem is your cab clearance. Take it one section at a time. Bed 1st. Added photo of one of the old cab mounts still stuck to my frame. They should all 4 be about like this one.

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
You may want to check your body bushings and make sure you have them in their correct location.
I had a customer do a motor swap on a restored and fit Camaro over a weekend. We got it back, and our door gap to fender was 3/4" out. Come to find out, they removed the stub frame and, when they reinstalled, put the core support bushings where the tub bushings belonged. Maybe check your bed mounts? If it was a cut down frame, maybe a mount was installed wrong. Measuring my steel floor bed, from the top of the frame to the top of the headboard is 26". The bed width at the headboard is 66" measured inner edge to inner edges. Measuring across the headboard, between the cab, at the 3rd body bolt from the top, outer edge to outer edge is 77". Front bed mount measured at the front edge from frame top to top of mount is 3 1/4". The back of the cab notch over the frame near the body mount, measured from top of the frame to the notch, is 1 5/16" - 1 3/8". Frame to body line below the rear window is 26 3/8". Hope some of this helps! Dan |

The 3/4t, 4x4 mounts look like this. You have the wrong ones if yours look like mine.

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
Is the cab too high, or is the bed too high? Your description of shimming under the cab and radiator support sounds like you are trying to raise the cab to match a higher bed. If this is the case, does your bed have a wooden floor? If yes, then are the boards 3/4" thick? If they are significantly thicker than that, then that could cause the bed to sit too high. The bottoms of thick boards would likely be notched at the ends to fit.

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
I appreciate all the comments. Let me clarify, the BED sets higher than the cab, according to the top and lower body, lines by an inch.
To mock things up, I had to put 8 each 1/8" spacers under the front and rear cab mounts. This of course dictated I need to shim up the core support. I've confirmed the cab mounts are the the correct mounts. Second picture As I purchased it: Last edited by LockDoc; 03-21-2022 at 02:14 PM. |

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
Are the bed cross beams setting directly on top of the bed mounts?
The cab was not body dropped, was it? Dan |

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
Is the bed floor wood or metal?
I'm thinking maybe they used the cross sills from the metal bed on a wood floor instead of getting wood floor cross sills. Could you get pictures of where the bedsides and bed front meet the floor? |

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
Something else for you to check. The steel floor bed crossrails are 3" tall, and the wood floor crossrails are 2 1/4" tall. Both measurements were done on the front crossrail.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of this. I've been so frustrated after the money spent on the frame and suspension only to run into this.

You may need to post some info on that too. Dan |

Can you post pictures of the rear cab mount brackets and bushings? LockDoc

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
This is the rear mount mocked up, with the necessary shims in place to make the body lines match up. It is not bolted down.

Need one from farther back so I can see the frame and bracket from the front. LockDoc .

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
I did replace the body mounts on the frame (see picture above), but there was no 'adjustment' to speak of. I would have suspected that if the body lines were correct when I purchased the truck.

Re: Help with a '67 Shortbed Body Lines
Hard to see for sure in that picture but it looks to me like the frame has been modified and kicked up over the rear axle. If so that would explain your problem.....
I sized your pictures down so they are easier to see. LockDoc
