Are ALL Tilt Columns painted black?

For either Automatic or 4-Speed tilts, are the always painted black?

I bought a 4-Speed tilt column and it is black.

My interior is Olive green with a standard 4 speed column (Cheyenne K20, BTW) that is green with a green steering wheel.

If in 1971 this truck had been ordered with a 4-Speed tilt column, what color would it be? green w/green wheel or black w/black wheel ?

I've never seen a tilt column in any other color than black. I was thinking of painting the tilt column green to match the interior as it is now. Of course, this column green color is a lighter shade than olive that the interior is painted in. Does anyone have a paint code/color for the column by chance?

All the tilts I've ever seen have been black, the column in my truck (non tilt) was green as well but I had it painted to match my truck. Great score on the 4 speed tilt (their tricky to find). Regards Doug

All the tilts in automatic trucks were black...a semi gloss black. I have never seen a factory 4 speed unit, and honistly wondered if they ever existed. You wouldn't have any pictures of it would you?
The steering column in my GMC was Olive green, the bummer was the truck was red. I painted it black and then decided a week later to slap a van tilt in there...trucst me, you'll probably love that tilt wheel, I can't believe I hadn't done it sooner.

I had a factory 4-speed tilt that I sold to Burnsman. I may still have a picture of it, let me see what I can find.

All tilts were the semi gloss/ flat black. Standard automatic columns were interior/body color as were 4 speed standard (non tilts) and 3 speeds.

e-bay is your friend. Seems that one shows up about once a month. That is where I got mine:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2484192403

unfortunately all but one picture remains to be viewed.

I am really happy with it. It came out of California and there is no rust on it. It looks like it has been reconditioned. No slop in the shafts, springs are good, fresh grease in the bearings and spring mechanisim and c-l-e-a-n. Only problem was, that even though the seller packaged it very well (no complaints), FedEx lightly dented the signal section and broke the flasher stub off. Sigh. I have been able to get the dents out and the tin back to being 99% round again.

Since I have a black instrument panel (new) lying around and a factory black steering wheel (near mint) lying around, I am going to leave it all black.

I'll see if I can't get a picture posted in about 10 days of the final install if anyone is interested.

I would guess that the tilt body is black, and the steering wheel the color of your interior??/
