Does this look normal? Seems like it would make a lot of slop.

It would help if we knew what truck its on. Having said that, it looks like the clutch linkage on my '49. Mine is adjusted so that there is about 1/2" free play at the pedal.

Looks like a '55-59 assy - see picture from assembly manual. Yes, a little hokey but it works.

The stiff rod out of the release arm is needed because of the close proximity of that connection point to the clutch pedal connection point.

While I was looking for what kind of trans you have to figure out where to look for a yoke I spotted this and it appears that that clutch rod is upside down. If you look at the diagram that was posted in another post it shows it the reverse of what it is installed . That will give a straighter pull than what you have now.

If it has the stock three or four speed it should not have ATF in it it should have 80/90 gear oil but there are some gear oil brands that are red and might look like ATF. If it has a T-5 or other 5 speed it may indeed run ATF.

Yes its a 3 speed . The rod was so lose it just slide off . Just seems like the whole rod is a side of the road fix but thats whats in the manual

I had a problem with my linkage falling off. I solved it by drilling a small hole at the end of the rod, installing a flat washer & a cotter pin - no more problem.

Good observation by mr48chev. Note the orientation of the rod on the clutch lever arm. It goes in from the frame rail side, not the center of the truck like shown in the manual. This will make it at an angle and would want to pull the rod off the clutch side rod. If done as intended, both will be parallel.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist.
