Flip kit info - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ok, now for the past few days I've been playing with the idea of when I get the money, whether to get a flip kit for the rear or just get the add-a-leaf thing goin. Both seem really reasonable in price and quality. And you can always add leafs to the flip kit, so I'm more in tune to buy that. But my main question is, do I really need it?

I look at my shackles right now, I see what is basically the same thing, of course, with a little bit different design. So would I be able to just 'flip it' myself to get the lift?? Or is there a difference between what they're selling and what I already have? Besides actual lift height and such.

Also, if anybody out there is using a flipkit, if you might be able to tell me where you got yours, cheaper ones, anything else I need to get for the kit, etc. etc. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

you can flip it yourself without buying anything........ i have seen this in person and a few times on the web. but a slot in the mount directly below where the shackle is now. unbolt the shackle and put it through the hole and rebolt it. to me the mount looks abit weak for this but havent heard of it breaking. OR you should get a front spring mount (for the rear suspension, that holds the spring pack itself) and mount it to the rear and bolt the shackle back on. I have heard good things about the ORD shackle flip and have thought about doing it myself. If you have a welder you could make one if you felt that confident.

I just used a set of front spring perches of the rear springs of a '74 blazer..
gave me a perfect 4 in lift..

Clean and cheap.

if you are interested I do have an extra set of perches I could get rid of for 35.00 plus S&H.

Yea, I've read about some people making their own, and I don't think I'm that great a welder/fabricator. And offroaddesign.com does have that specific application that they point out for 1 ton trucks with the spring center spacing.

I'm just toying with the idea at the moment, till I get real money and everything I want done with frame. Want a big lifted truck,

plus it will help out with spacing for when I get 22's on the truck. And its a lot harder tryin to find 1 ton applications.
