Billet Dash Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've seen lots of pics of billet aluminum dashes and glovebox doors. Are those things just stick-on / screw-on covers, or do they replace the factory pieces, and have mounting hardware for the gauges?

Any versions you can recommend, or that I should stay away from?

i`m going to use the set from no limit. they are the same ones they used on copperhead from the trucks show. they replace the original dash and are set up for custom gauges. don`t know what ones to stay away from but i`m sure someone here does.

There are both kinds around. The kind that just go over the stock dash- glovebox and the complete billet dash like Javy sells. As far as I know he is the only one that makes a billet glovebox door and on his last ebay sale he was asked if he had any. He said no and it sounded like he wasn't going to make anymore gloveboxes. I have the stick-on billet dash pieces and I don't like them. I just bought the complete billet dash on sale at Brothers for $190.

There is a board member that makes very nice billet dash bezels. I have heard the NoLimit ones require some cutting to the dash and his don't. I think his name is Javier? Do a search. I think he also made matching glove box doors.

I have one that just screws on to the front of the stock bezel. You have to grind down the raised areas that say "lights" and "wipers". The fit is ok. I got it off e-bay and it looks like the same one's listed in LMC. I don't have a glove box door piece.

That helps. So there are billet covers for the plastic dash bezels available, but no word on a glovebox door cover.

Now, about the billet dashes that replace the factory plastic bezels - do they require aftermarket gauges, or will any of them accept stock gauge assemblies?

the no limit one does require some trimming but it`s not much and they sell a matching glove box door too. they are $180 a piece without gauges. i don`t know if stock gauges will work with them or not.

I have a few of the Polished Aluminum Dash pieces for the 67-72 Chevy truck. I am going to post a thread on the parts board. They cover the dash, ashtray, and glove box door(2 styles for glove box).

Problem is, I've got no gauge package, so only holes for three big gauges, blinkers, and headlight - wiper switches.

Anyone seen covers for that dash?

Here's my billet dash from Boese Engineering with Dolphin gages. No, you can't use your stock gages. Yes, you have to trim the 'ears' that support the light and wiper switch to use my bezel. I heard that Javier's didn't require this because his is 5/8" thick. Mine is 3/8" thick. Total price including gages is going to be around $500 depending on your choice of gages. Don't forget to get the correct sending units for your new gages.

They are polished like a mirror. The rough surface that you see is just the plastic cover on the package.
