Re: New project : 72 Suburban
Today I started on the rear of the Burb to get it ready for bodywork and then paint eventually. Removed the lower trim on both sides in the rear and the rear bumper. Started to DA the driver side this afternoon will probably resume after the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families.

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
Started on the bodywork today. So far so good. Got most of it roughed in so tomorrow I will probably prep the passenger quarter where it needs mud and go from there.

Looks good so far. I can't say I hate body work but it isn't my most favorite thing to do. I'm not very good at it either, I get in a hurry. LockDoc

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
Thank you Leon. So far it doesnt look bad. Today Im working on the kitchen. Sanded the drywall this morning and just finished painting. Im not sure which one Im worse at doing, Drywall or bodywork lol. At least if I mess up on one that will be a learning experience on what not to do on the other LOL

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
Made some small progress this evening. Started on the passenger quarter, roughed it up and spread the coat of mud. Tomorrow I will sand it down and spread the second coat.

If you are like me it's either do it yourself or live with it. Looks like you are doing a decent job to me. If you are going to drive it, it will get rock chips and stuff on it anyways. LockDoc

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
Yes sir Leon you are absolutely right. Im learning as I go and Dad is going to finish it off so I will be able to watch him. I was always the metal guy, when it came time to do bodywork I was banned from the shop LOL. I cant wait until it is all one color and the black is gone from the rear.

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
Today I got the driver side rocker painted and out of the way. 2 more rockers to go and that project will be complete and crossed off the list. Matched up fairly well too.

Nice work. With your skills and attention to detail it's shaping up nicely.

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
This morning I painted the 3rd door and passenger side rockers. then this afternoon Dad came over to do a skim coat on the quarters so they are now ready for primer. Not sure when that will happen, I have a few more minor things I want to get out of the way before we prime and blend in the red

Got the rear passenger quarter painted white this morning. If time permits this week I will move down the passenger side and get the rockers ready to paint.

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
Primer is Kirker .... The red is the original paint code mixed and put into a rattle can at Napa. The white is canvas white by Rust-Oleum in the rattle can bc it is a near perfect match to the weathered and faded original white on the bottom of the fenders and doors.

Re: New project : 72 Suburban
This morning I primed and painted the passenger side rockers. The white on the passenger side is now complete. Once the driver side white is finished I will move on to the red. Also I would like to wish all the forum members a Happy Birthday today that I share it with, hope you all have a wonderful day!!!
