60-62 X Frame Rear tank

Hi
Has any had any luck finding another vehicles gas tank that is rear mount, rear fill fuel tank that fits on these trucks. I have found the Spectra Fuel Tank GM15C fits back there, and the fuel fill can be orientated to the rear but it hangs so low. I know on the 63-66 it looks like some of the retro Camaro tanks fit but appears to be too wide for the 60-62. I also really am looking to have a in tank fuel pump if possible.

I know there are some aftermarket sites that do make custom tanks for these frames but checking if there are more affordable options out there.

Re: 60-62 X Frame Rear tank

The 60-62 frames are wider in the rear than the 63-66 tanks, so maybe you could fab something up to make it work?

Re: 60-62 X Frame Rear tank

I did an early 90's S10 Blazer tank in my '61, but the bed floor is also raised 4" which makes it fit better. My build might not be "normal" or "conventional."

Re: 60-62 X Frame Rear tank

I had the same question when I moved the tank on my 62. I used a 64-mustang tank from Tanks Inc. It is slim enough that it does not hang below the bumper. I had to make a mounting plate because it was not wide enough to fit the frame rails. Unfortunately, I am not really good at documenting what I did but I do have a couple of photos of the finished tank. I hope this gives you an option for your project.

Re: 60-62 X Frame Rear tank

I too went with the 10.5" deep S-10 Blazer EFI tank but it's not rear fill. My Apache is lowered with rear air bags/Schraders along with stock height wood bed floor and honestly doesn't hang too low for me. I originally purchased a 22 gallon 1996 GM full size van tank that fit great but was much too low at over 12" deep.

On my 61 I used a tanks inc 53 Chevy car tank. It seems like it will work.
