Man that's a sweet looking cap! That's probably for a 69 or a 70. How big around is it?

It is a half ton hub cap. As far as I know 69-70 were chrome or white?

Just 'cause they look the same doesn't mean they are the same size. And yes, 69-70 caps were chrome with black paint and the blue bowtie, or white with black paint and the blue bowtie.

Cap

From what I understand it's a 69-70 1/2 ton cap, if it measures 10.5"
Don't understand the silver paint though...

The middle black circular area of 1/2 ton hubcaps dimple in, the 3/4 ton ones dimple out. I looked the part # up in my dealer parts book and there is no listing for that #

Anybody have a pic of the kind that came on my 67 gmc? Or maybe has a set of 4 to sell? It is a 2wd 6 lug leaf spring truck.

Thanks
Chris

I have a silver cap like that, and I tried finding out about it too a couple years ago, no one on here had a clue. Mine is for a 3/4 ton, and other than the silver, it is 100% just like the 69/70 3/4 ton hub cap...which every 3/4 ton hub cap I have ever had (which were all of this style) had the concave center, not the domed center.
I have been wanting to touch mine up and hang it on my rec room wall too, but haven't gotten around to it.

Thats a 69 1/2 ton, 1st design "painted silver" according to the 1970 printed GM parts book. Also there was a 3/4 cap just like it classified as 1st design and painted silver. They are rare and I have seen one a time or two over the years.

Hi guys,

I recall seeing these on a few 69-70 "P" series Step Vans (aluminum bodied bread trucks) and some forward control chassis'.
Later "P" series caps were the common white ones, I think.

I've seen a 69-70 2wd GMC Truck with caps in that colour I believe, (of course they were GMC and not a Chevy bowtie tho) identical in every other way tho.

Thanks Mark. Someone wrote on the back of this cap just what you said, 69 1st design. I guess it was before they went with white ones? How strange, I guess it was a pretty good find for $9.99 on ebay!!

Them er 69's

I had a totally original 69 c-10 many years ago, and it had silver ( or argent ) painted wheels with the identical hubcaps as yours. later in production towards the 1970 model year the standard hub cap changed to a white. The same caps in chrome were available on trucks that were custom, or cst to accent the chrome trim on bumpers, as well as windsheild trim, or vent window trim. After 70 the standard caps remained white with the black trim, and blue bow ties, and the chrome were still available with the trim level.
