Lower Radiator hose for 350 forward position, serp system, angled radiator

Hi,
I've read all the lower radiator hose threads, I don't think anyone has addressed this combination.

* 1967 C10
* 350 mounted in foward position
* serpentine system
* 67 radiator - flange is angled up about 30 degrees and is 1.75" diameter


I have read about Gates 20842 but I believe this is for engines in the rear position, same with Gates 21941. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=464850

I tried AC Delco 24053L/GM 88908342 and it was not match.

I also tried Napa 7581.

I bet many of you have this engine configuration, what lower hose are you using, other than a universal hose?

Went thru this same problem a few years ago on my sons 72 and if I remember correctly we used a lower hose off a 95+/- V8 pickup. It orientated the water pump suction correctly for the serpentine system and we had to trim/shorten a little where it mates to the radiator nipple.

Not sure of your radiator nipple size but his was about 1/8" larger than the I.D. of the hose so we also had to heat it to stretch it on. Other than those two hiccups it worked perfectly.

72, 350, 95ish C/K1500 serpentine system. Been using the stock 72 upper and lower hose for about 15 years now. The lower required trimming off about 2" at the rad end, and some contorting. Used a rotating thermostat housing to direct the upper away from the alternator. Good luck, Lee

I understand that the 90's era radiators have a straight input, not angled upward, and that change might have started in 1972, meaning a 1967 radiator input flange is angled upward 30 degrees and a later model the input flange comes straight out of the radiator.

Like this example, I think this is the later model radiator:


Here is a radiator similar to mine on the lower input, angled up. (THIS IS NOT MY ACTUAL TRUCK)

I have an aftermarket radiator, the inlet is angled up similar to your picture.

This shows the tight fit required - it has to come straight out of the pump, under a pully bracket, then up through a tight space and turn left, going downhill into the angled radiator pipe.

Here's a picture of this in a truck from the Amazon reviews. Looks like a good fit if you don't have serpentine brackets to get around.




In my case there's a backet in the way. I'm debating between trying to cut up two hoses I have and join them together or just get another flex hose - the right one just doesn't seem to exist.

Can any of y’all tell me if a radiator out of a square body Chevy could be made to fit in a 68 c20? I have a brand new 85 c10 radiator i sold the c10 and got a c20 Is there any way to use it in my c20?

I put a serpentine setup with accessories from a 1997 truck in my 1970 with 350 ci. I had to get a thermostat housing that allowed rotation of the hose nipple. The upper hose for a 1997 fit nicely enough then. As for the bottom hose, I never was able to find a ready made rubber hose that would fit so I had to use a universal flex steel hose with rubber hose adapters on each end. I hope someone comes up with a part number for a molded rubber hose that will work for the lower hose.

Top photo shows the GM serpentine arrangement I used. This was picked from a 1996 Silverado if I recall. The bottom photo shows what I came up with to plumb the lower radiator hose. The hose is flexible steel with rubber adapters on each end to join the flex hose with radiator/water pump. Summit carries these universal hose sets (search on "SUM-390124-BK" for an example-I don't know if this is exactly what I used in terms of length and ID but it should give you a general idea of my "solution"). Beware of the two rubber pieces on this hose set. The one I got had a pair of el cheapo pieces of rubber hose that I had to replace.

As you can see from the bottom photo, the steel flex hose allowed me to snake my way around trans cooler lines, frame, etc. Let me know if this makes sense to you. If not, I can try to take a picture from below this weekend
