Transfer Case Knob - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi-
New guy here from the 67-72 side...

I recently picked up an '85 K-30 chassis-cab that is missing the knob for the transfer case. (99% sure it's an NP-205).

Could someone here post a pic of the correct knob for this vintage truck so I know what to look for? There seems to be about 3-4 different versions that have the same shift pattern, but I'd like to get the right one.

I believe this is the style knob you're after, I just sold this one last month.

Kind of a side question, but is this the correct knob for a 1985 SM-465 transmission?

It seems odd to me that the transmission and transfer case would have different knobs.

I believe this is the correct style SM465 knob. It is the same style as the NP205 but has different threads and decal. This particular one has lots of wear, it should have the texture as the 205 knob posted by MJN.

That is the correct knob for '72 and older. '73 began with L 1-2-3 in this shape knob (like this one) and believe changed shape in ~'77. Later on, as it was stated, they changed shape like the NP205 knob I posted above.

Regarding the transmission knob, apparently GM figured people were no longer smart enough to know not to start off in first gear (1) for normal driving.

I see YT videos of people driving those older pickups and trucks and they start off in first and rev it up about three grand before hitting second on level ground and no load. It drives me crazy and I want to scream at them.

I rarely even started in first (420) in my old log truck on level ground, grossing up to about 25K pounds. I did get to where I could get it rolling in low and then shift to 2nd without a bunch of revving or grinding gears (most of the time) when I had to start on a hill. That was a big block V-6 with lots of torque.

They make these billet repops that are powder coated.
