Are these original beauty rings?
I bought a set of 6 lug rally wheels that the guy claimed had original beauty rings and caps. The caps appear to be original since they are die cast aluminum and not plastic, but I've never seen this style of beauty ring before. I am thinking of selling the set of caps and rings and don't want to advertise them as original if they aren't. Also, what is a decent driver-quality set of 6 lug caps and rings worth?

Re: Are these original beauty rings?
Original trim rings are more chamfered/beveled in appearance (not as rounded) and have a different clip arrangement.
Unless those are for a different wheel width? Original trim rings (1987 model year, 15x8" wheel):

Re: Are these original beauty rings?
Actually those are correct 1st design trim rings with 4 attaching point clips. The 2nd design 1976 on were the 12 point attaching style as Keith has pictured in his truck.
The N67 rally wheel option appeared later as an option during the 1973 model year and had several distinct differences until the 1978 models came out. As per my 1977 print parts book the trim rings with "4" clips were K10 models and Blazer 1973-1975. 2nd design used from 1976 on. The early caps were also taller at 4 7/8ths versus the later caps 1976 on at 4.25". This was because GM only had used full closed caps with insert medallions for GMC and bowtie on all four wheels covering the full time 203 cap. Then in 1978 GM made the rear closed caps only with the new 4x4 medallion. I believe the few 205 gear drive systems with spicer knobs were not available with N67 wheels due to no open rally wheel caps on the scene till 1976. All caps from 73-77 were painted trim black around the base not silver as all later ones were till end of production. Also of importance was all the early caps used 1/4" bolts/ casting holes and the 1978 on wheels were made with silver base color and used 5/16 for the mounting screws/ casting holes. GM also in 1978? started making the N67 15x8 rally wheel with cap mount holes drilled at 1/4 " and alternating 5/16 holes to mount either size GM caps. All factory screws were self tapping but were given seperate part # for either size in the late 1970's. I've done a lot of research on the early N67 rally wheels. Here is the GM Parts Book info for my basis on 4 clip 15" trim rings in group 5.871 for the trim ring info and years used.

Re: Are these original beauty rings?
Old thread, but the info. is real good, maybe I can add value and/or confusion
![]() My research as well shows some of the clip info. mentioned above, however...... I see two NOS sets of rings with boxes, 359763 (1979 -1983 +/-). The rings have 16 clips instead of four. Looks legit to me. They're on Ebay. Both say they're for 15 x 7 wheels, though perhaps they'd fit an 8" too, input appreciated. The 359763 appear to be the "3'" variety, not certain. Here are the rings I bought with my wheels, used early-mid 90s. The ring's exterior looks like Keith's above, but mine only have four clips like the "old versions" and OP. For a twist these rings are stamped 12-7-92, which would seem is a date stamp, thus 1992 rings with old version clips. Can't say they're GM, but I don't know, with that stamp and quality it would seem they are. They look like 15633786 ring of which here's a set, https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=728124 FWW my rings are 1.75" deep. My 15 x 8 wheels are stamped 1983. Unfortunately the rings are no longer an option for me, I see a dent that can’t be fixed unless the inside is removed first. Hmm. I like the 359763 on Ebay, but won’t be spending $800-900 today. Still researching. FWW here’s what the “92” rings looked like on my 1983 wheels. Not sure I agree the four clip versions were for K trucks and Blazers. My truck is 2wd, they fit, but then I'm no expert. Some more info. about cap screws............ https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...51#post9396151 Wow, after more research this guy saved me A LOT of time and money thank you. I didn't consider the truck has been dropped 4/2.5 since it saw the 15x8 wheels. Had 50/50 emotions about that in the first place, to do over again I wouldn't. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=462895 So I guess I'll look for 15x7, with some resistance, loose the 15 x 8 I've had for ages, what a bummer. NOS caps and lugs bought so long ago. Until then if ever, these OEM will do.

Re: Are these original beauty rings?
As for the first pic those are Truck trim rings. I see them on Rallys 15 x6 inch rims and 15x7 inch mostly I have not had tried them on 15x8 Rallys. Because pretty sure they fit (But just do not go as deep into the center.)
Now the one that Keith Seymore posted is the one that mostly can be found on Pontiac Rallys ll 73-87 and on Corvette with the big center can. But most people like the dip deep into the center stop at the slats opening around the center rim. I all was had more luck finding them extra Pontiac trim rings on trucks then Pontiac. and the other reason the Pontiac trim rings do not scratch up the paint on the rims as much.

Working on a build and want to replicate that setup again. So, are these the 3" wide rings? Is there a 'best' aftermarket supplier for them? Prefer stainless over chrome just because rust never sleeps... |
