Do You Own a White ’71 GMC SB With VIN: ...113548?

If so, I have your build sheet and would be happy to return it to you. Here’s the backstory. I’ve owned my ’72 GMC since 1973 and was happy to discover a build sheet in perfect condition when I removed the bench seat several years ago. I was very disappointed though when I discovered that the build sheet was NOT for my truck!!! My truck was built at Flint in Dec ’71 and sold on 12-28-1971 by Key GMC in Mobile, AL. The mystery truck build sheet I have indicates it was built at Lakewood/Atlanta in April ’71 and delivered to Key GMC. Since it’s clear that the two trucks were built at different plants at different times, the seats must have been swapped at Key GMC. I know the odds are slim to say the least, but if you own the mystery truck or know who does, it would be nice to know if you have my build sheet and to return yours. Who knows, with all of the amazing truck guys (and gals) on this site it could happen.

I worked at a couple of dealerships back in the day and have a theory as to how the seat swap may have happened. I got my truck when it was a year old and at that time it had clear plastic seat covers on it. Just guessing, but they could have been dealer installed. The mystery truck was built in April ’71 but apparently still on Key’s lot in December of ’71 when my truck was sold, indicating that is was likely a demonstrator or used by the general manager. It could be that the guy who bought my truck wanted the seat covers but since it was during the holidays it could’ve taken a longer time to order them, so the manager told the shop to just swap the seats with the demo truck as it had the hound’s-tooth seat and plastic covers. It also could be that the seat was damaged and was swapped to make the sale happen. Who knows?

I’ve attached pics of the mystery build sheet and my SPID. I would greatly appreciate any help or insight any of you can offer in solving this 50-year old mystery.
