Cover holes behind door panels

My 72 has the usual access holes in the doors. I want to replace my door panels that I removed years ago. The smaller holes can be duct taped. The large rectangular hole isn't flat. As I recall it had some type of paper over the hole. Maybe use aluminum tape because of the irregularities in the shape? Ideas ???

I (personally) have no memory of plastic or the like to cover those access holes/cut-outs. Perhaps there was simply for the original painting process. I do know newer vehicles regularly had plastic to prevent moisture and air from making it into the passenger cabin and likely to prevent your beautiful door panel getting moldy. I think it would make sense for vehicles having cardboard panels wrapped in leather/fabric, but probably not the case with metal or plastic door panels.

Just laid down DynaMat and inside the door skins in my 72’.
It will conform to the uneven large inner door opening.
I had a squeak in the passenger inner door during my last test drive and found that the door latch rod was the culprit.
I”ll wait until the carpet and bench seat are back in, some more test drives then cover that opening and install the door panel/arm rests.

There was a water shield that covered the big access hole in the doors from the factory.
I have seen them on some of the trucks I have owned over the years..
