1970 Jiffy Mount Tire C10 build
Hey everyone. Figured I'd finally start my own build thread for my truck. I will post some before and after pics (since I have worked on it since 2000 off and on) and also my future mods for the truck.
The Logo on the door is a company my Dad co-owned back in the 70s and I thought it would be a fun homage to him and fit the era of shop truck. The seats I designed and sewed up. They are buckets out of a '99 chevy, if I remember correctly. The ad is a remake from an older one, that you may have seen, pic replaced with my son washing the truck |

Here are some pictures of my truck when I first got it back in summer of 2000. No engine, orange doors, no seats, diamond in the rough

Re: 1970 Jiffy Mount Tire C10 build
Made a custom headliner to match the seats. I used magnet to keep it up, And it has yet fell down on my drives which is a plus
And it is nice that if Id like to go back, there is no damage/holes to the cab. |

Nice truck. I dig the headliner matching the seats you did.

Re: 1970 Jiffy Mount Tire C10 build
That headliner idea is great. A lot of new cars use the magnets to hold headliners. I never thought of doing that to one of these trucks.

Re: 1970 Jiffy Mount Tire C10 build
Im not sure the specs on the magnets I used. I pulled them from a bunch of gps antennas that my work was throwing out. I stacked 3-4 in each spot. Also, as you can kinda see in the photo, I used some name tag magnets. Basically I was trying to make this work with what I had on hand, without buying more magnets.
There are some good websites out there that you can buy magnets in all shapes and sizes. |

Re: 1970 Jiffy Mount Tire C10 build
My side marker light lenses were cracking and needed replaced. Instead of buying new ones, I decided to design up my own in Illustrator and engraved/cut them out on my laser cnc. 1/8" acrylic.
many years back I put these fender vents in. Another unique mod I didn't want the M3 logo in there, so I was able to make these bubble c/10 badges by pouring epoxy resin. this was before all the SUVs, like the suburbans, started to run fender vents. I remember this, because people thought I was copying them. |

Re: 1970 Jiffy Mount Tire C10 build
Winter weather is close here in the pnw so Im gearing up for my winter project! Im going to work on my long bed to short bed conversion. I dropped all the wiring from the side marker lights and tail light. Then removed the air tanks, compressors, and wood to lighten it up. Next will be to get it lifted up to drive the truck out.
I will work on the bed sides first, then the frame. Wish me luck!

Re: 1970 Jiffy Mount Tire C10 build
Got the first cuts done with the bed shortening. It was a bit nerve racking, but after a couple inches in, I was committed. No turning back right?
Only thing Id change would be to do the conversion before shaving the tailgate. But when I did that back in '07, I did not know that was an option. Oh well, Ill get it done

Re: 1970 Jiffy Mount Tire C10 build
Some more progress on the conversion. I was able to finish up the cuts on the bed and seem to be fitting back together alright. So that's a plus.
Next, some welding.. wish me luck! It's been awhile since I've thrown down some welds

Re: 1970 Jiffy Mount Tire C10 build
So I started welding on my bed and it was a bumpy start since I haven't welded in a few years. But Im getting the hang of it. I have these photos that I took in the middle of what I have done. The one photo of the top edge, I have filled in. Since it didnt fit that well, probably due to some error I did, I used a metal clothes hanger to help fill the gap and now you cant tell it was even there.
Then I ran out of MIG wire, so that gives me time to catch up on some Etsy orders I need to get out! Its the busy time of year! They are leather keychains/bag tags That I engrave on my laser and then hand punch and stitch. It helps feed my hobbies more pics of the bed soon...hopefully!
