Looking at buying 89 c1500 , cam and efi questions

Hi all so I'm looking to possibly buy a 89 c1500 for a daily driver. Real straight real clean original paint 2/4 drop and immaculate interior. This truck got a brand new stock crate motor 5k ago so my question is , what cam can I throw in ( or top end for that matter) to make about 350hp for a daily driven truck? I would convert to edelbrock proflow 4 xt before any mods. I had a 93 tbi on a yukon once and I have no desire to keep the oem setup.

My needs are that it needs to be reliable for daily and not super crazy or lopey , and I still need to be able to tow with it 6k lbs or less . Everything I search when looking for upgrades is generally shot down or neutered suggestions due to tbi restrictions.

I have an 84 ls swapped truck already that is my hotrod , I want this to be a sensible everyday truck with power to do truck things and get up and down the mountain passes of Utah with my fishing boat. I was thinking maybe some aluminum afr heads or trick flow with a ht383 cam might get me there?

210 hp to 350 hp, good luck. No cam and head swap will yield you 140 hp on a gen II V8 motor.

That’s the crappy part about the OBS trucks. They have weak motors compared to LS motors and the cost to build a gen II motor to even make decent power is not worth it. Especially when you start comparing costs to an LS swap. You have an LS Squarebody so you should know performance is much easier and cheaper with an LS.

The biggest issue with the tbi engine is lack of cam/head flow.

Supposedly they have 9.3-1 compression so if you do have that your gtg on the long block.

If you can get a 1992+ LT1 Camaro or Corvette cam cheap. Along with AFR or similar 185cc heads. Along with bolt ons. You will be at 350hp crank.

Instead of the proflo. I would go for a TPI to enhance the torque, and shorten the runner up a bit to carry the hp better. Richard Holdener has a tpi mega test to give you a better idea of hp/tq will be.

I put AFR 1006 heads and a Comp XR258 cam on an 880 block. Not done tuning yet but I'm at ~280hp and ~350ft/lbs at the crank. I'll be at 300/410 once I'm done. You can go to a bigger cam to get to 350hp. I went with this cam because I was going to use Vortec heads then changed my mind once I pulled mine and bought the AFRs. I'm also all roller with 1.6 rockers too.

You will need a bigger TBI, either a bored out small block one or a big block TBI, then tune away.

Check out Fast 355 on the ThirdGen Camaro/Firebird website. He has a 3/4 ton van that he has into the 11's

lol.
A: Its a gen I TBI motor, not a Gen 2 LT.
B: Many combos can get that much more power, as has been proven by hundreds if not thousands of dyno tests over the years that you can look up. Hell, edelbrocks top end package promises that. I'd bet a truck that AFR195's and a roller cam in the 230@.050 range would get 350HP on a stock 350 shortblock.

He's changing the injection system.
