Re: original (not modified) truck pics
If I remember correctly, the original owner waxed everything including the door and tailgate jamb areas. It’s a fine truck

That's WAY cool! Man, I want one. Just have to sell my econobox. I'll do it when my wife's out of town.

Re: original (not modified) truck pics
Bumping up this old thread just to admire Joesjunk's incredible taste in trucks!
My Orange 69 C/20 from earlier in the thread went to Colorado 3 years ago and after a brief 3 year fling with an 81 GMC 2500 Sierra I'm back in the 67-72 camp with this 70 C/20 with 74K miles and a 402 from Oregon.

Re: original (not modified) truck pics
my 72 Cheyenne Super is in this thread from a couple years ago,as it appeared after i had it hauled home from 25 years in storage in Idaho.it's been apart, rebuilt mechanically and re-painted twice(a long story),the original 402/turbo 400 repaired and re-installed,original 16.5 wheels repainted and back on,re-cored rad,new brakes, new carpet and mats, new windsheild, the correct number quadrajet that came from another member here in Ohio,as what was on it wasn't right and whatever else it needed.it was a 1 owner truck til me,built at the Fremont plant, sold new at Leo Hoffman Chevrolet in City of Industry,Ca.74,000 miles when it got here and 77,000 now.best truck i've ever had.here's the finished product.

Re: original (not modified) truck pics
It’s already been mentioned, the steering wheel and wheels are the most replaced items.
I tell people my truck is 90% original When I bought it in ‘92, The Steering wheel had already been replaced with a Square body one, and the rims were White spoke. On the engine, the carb and manifold are aftermarket, and it’s got headers instead of manifolds. I’m about to refresh the paint, and replace the bed wood Other than that, she’s factory Not shortened, not lowered, not LS swapped, not tank relocated, not painted a non factory color, and the interior is not molested. Whenever anyone asks if I’m gonna do anything, my response will is “Why mess with perfection?” |

Re: original (not modified) truck pics
very cool.i have been hoping the nephew of the original owner, who i bought the truck from and inhertited the old homestead in Idaho, where the the truck was for 25 years, would come across some of the original paperwork for the truck from the dealership.i have the build sheet but not the protecta-plate or anything else, sure would be neat to have whatever he might come across.i talk to him from time to time and i know if they find anything, they'll send it along.i am very happy with the paint, the second paint work.the first go-round was a disaster.it's single stage PPG urethane.my painter wanted base clear and i didn't so we battled back and forth about it.just like belly buttons, everybody has one and an opinion about paint.i prefer the look of the old finish on old trucks and cars,to me base clear doesn't look right but that's just me.take care.thanks.

Re: original (not modified) truck pics
Restored to nearly original. Very few mods, and where there are mods the parts are "GM", such as Witek band clamps instead of towers for water hoses, Delco 10Si alternator and Delco HEI. And it was dropped 4/2.5. I don't care for the logo on the floor mats, so I've ordered some w/o them.
That and the truck was standard ochre/white w/o side moldings, now deluxe.

Re: original (not modified) truck pics
The bones are still original, but it has had a few additions. P.S., P. Disc, AC, and a few others.
The first picture is in 1985, the day I towed it home. The second is today, sitting in the same spot with 327,000 miles. It hauled 20 + loads of dirt away and no small amount of the materials in to build that garage. I had one lumber drop. I built the garage myself except for the door. No one in CA will sell a 8' door without installation included. I won't make any excuses for getting rid of the split rims. It had 16.5" slotted aluminum wheels and several sets of tires before I put on the 17" H2 wheels. I've replaced the seat upholstery twice and to be truthful is beginning to show age. Those low mileage, pretty trucks sure are nice, but I drive mine. The 2018 Ram 3500 is nice and all, but most days, sits where you see it with only 10k miles.

Re: original (not modified) truck pics
The bones are all original - undercarriage 100% OE minus normal maintenance items and added dual exhaust on Dynaflow mufflers. Glass and sheet metal OE, with zero rust. OE interior paint, door panels, headliner and wiring.
New: one respray with OE color in 2010, new front bumper (OE had holes for fog lights), carpet, houndstooth seat cover, instrument bezel, tachometer and comfort tilt column. Engine rebuilt in 2015 with OE carb - Hooker headers added (by now 81 year old previous female owner). This is not a frame off restoration, but a mildly refreshed pickup that spent 50 years garaged in North Carolina. It was never used as a "truck" but a secondary driver. Now with 72K miles on the body/frame.
