I just sold a rebuilt TBI engine to a guy that has a 92 with just under 300,000 miles on it. He said it just started using oil within the last 6 months. Original owner truck, and the body is real nice on it. He said he would be putting in a new tranny (3rd one) when he did the engine swap. Other then that, he siad there were no major problems other then maintainence and wear items. Thought the money he saved fixing this truck over the years as opposed buying new ones was well worth it. Fuel injected engines will last a long time with regular oil changes and tune-ups. Same with the rest of the truck, regular maintainace means a lot.

The list of Maint. items replaced on my Buddy's Burb is fairly short...He has replaced the radiator at about 175K, a couple of fuel pumps ( once in the winter w/ a full tank of gas!! ) and just recently he has done some front end work ( ball joints and hub bearings etc, )

Other than that this truck has been rock solid reliable, and has never let him or his family down.

Don't be afraid of one with a few miles... A little maint. can go a long way....( Go price a NEW truck and calculate your depreciation and sales tax, then see where you stand)

I have a 93 silverado fullsize 4x4 blazer. I bought it with 114000 miles in 2000.
It now has 175000 miles.

I have:
replace the water pump.
had leak in the radiator fixed.
replace the light switch which some how melted
replaced the clutch.
replaced the shock(i play rough)
replaced the upper ball joints(i play rough)
replaced the upper control arm bushings(i play rough)
replaced the inner and outer tie rods(i play rough)
replaced the front drive axles(boots got torn from too much offroading)
replaced the brakes several times.
had the rear end rebuilt(i play rough - too much mudding and never changed the lub)
A/c just recently leaked out the freon(i think). it just had to be recharged. i paid extra and converted it to the cheap stuff.
had to replace the hinge pin on driver door.
the trip o meter stop working - i need to remove the instrument clusted and see if i can fix it.

I have not had any problems or complaints with the 350 engine.
It is very strong and still sounds good(especially with a flowmaster and tips).
I have not had to mess with the alternator...yet.
My problems above are from playing rough and are also nomal wear and tear on the truck.
I would think if the previous owner is a grandma driver then there should not be too many problems.
I don't like buying modified vehicles...i would rather do the mods myself to know what has been done.

I have 200,000 on mine, have not had any major problems with it since it was purchased new. Change the oil and do regular maint. on it, very dependable and I would drive it anywhere without hesitation. If the price is right , go for it..

I had an 88' GMC Sierra with a 350 that had 222,000 when I traded it in a few years ago. I never had any problems with the engine, however, I had the transmission rebuilt at about 120,000 miles

I just bought a 92 3/4 ton 4x4 w/350. so far all is well with the truck. It has 135,000 on it and uses no oil between changes. I did all the usual things I do when I buy a used vehicle like plugs wires, oil, all filters, brakes, shocks and a couple minor upgrades so far. The previous owner just had the trany rebuild 50 miles before I bought it but other than that the truck is all original.
I can't touch a new truck like this for under 30 grand so at 2500 it was a great deal. good luck if you buy it.

my luck with chevy

well i have a 94 ext cab with 350 i bought it 3 yrs ago with 150k miles on it it was a company work truck but a silverado so i guess they took very good care of it the truck now has 227k on it still runs like a top even after ive put a chip, headers and bigger throttle body and exuast been really fornutate only thing to go has been fuel pump but thats no big deal,on the other hand my wifes 96 tahoe we bought it with 60k on ticker nothing but headache 2 alternators,1 starter, mulitple batteries, new radiator,2 fuel pumps, intake gasket, water pump a/c compressor, new cpu,and erbuilt tranny at 110k,2 idler pullies and im sure theres more but cant think now,i think its really just the luck of the draw with these trucks but i will say this id much rather work on a tbi than a vortec i know not as strong but alot less hassle...hope this helps..Steve

Got a 93 surburaban K1500,, just put a 3rd tranny (get a aftermarket cooler!) but its got 220,000 miles,, orginal engine.. replaced the water pump, raditor, belt tensioner and muffler, tailpipe,, thats about it.. regular oil changes and plugs,,, doenst burn any oil... I decided to keep it and put the tranny back in, instead of buying new...
