Fan shroud

[68 chevy man]

I have a chrome 19.5" fan I want to install on a small block 350 on a 68 chevy 4x4 but the hole in the shroud is too small can anyone tell me if there is a shroud that I can get that will fit. I have a 18" flex fan but it makes too much noise the one that I have is a clutch type. 😊

I believe 19.5" fan is made for big-block trucks. Not sure what shroud might fit your truck.

My suggestion is not what you are asking, but it's what I would do. Get a Hayden #2747 heavy-duty fan clutch and pair it with a factory 18", 7-blade fan. And throw away the flex fan.

Thanks Mike I'm a bit inclined to follow your suggestion I'm sure I'll be able to sell the chrome 19.5" fan at the next swap meet I only paid $10 for the fan and the clutch at the last swap meet.

Standard fan was 18", AC and heavy duty cooling were 19", as for stock.

Not sure about that -- my '72 with factory A/C has an 18" fan. I would *assume* A/C means it has heavy duty cooling. But I wouldn't take that to the bank, either. I was only aware of a larger fan for big-blocks.

This stuff gets strange. I read that info about the fans somewhere on here, quoted from some kind of spec book. I'd really like to see something definite about this. I may well be wrong. Interestingly enough, I have a big block engine with AC, and it had an 18" fan that was nowhere close to coupling with the stock shroud, stuck way inside, with the front of the clutch so close to the radiator that I have to take the fan and clutch off to change belts. This truck ran hot from the time my father-in-law bought it in '73. I went through a lot of hoops to get the thing not to run stupid hot. I'll poke around in some info I have to see about this.

I went with a Hayden 2705 and Derale 17118 18" rigid 6-blade fan. My 350 SBC is in the I6/4x4 rear mounted position. The setup keeps my truck really cool and fits perfectly with the 4x4 shroud.

Edit: Looking at the Hayden 2747, I wish I would have upgraded to that over the standard fan clutch.
