What were they thinking. (Mods that shouldn't have happened)
All kinds of Crazys with modifications that should not have happened.
Or "What were they thinking"? Here is one that was on a truck I own. What do you have? |

Re: What were they thinking. (Mods that shouldn't have happened)
I saw a 73-87 square in Pull-a-Part years ago where the entire cab inside was covered in 70's type shag carpet. Nicely done. Had a Latino feel to it. Someone had also done an excellent job of adding a radio antenna port to the drivers side cab just behind the door. Sadly, no pics. Was before the era of most folks carrying personalized tracking devices.

Re: What were they thinking. (Mods that shouldn't have happened)
You gave me flashbacks... My first car was a 67 Impala 4 door. It had a 283, slip-and-slide Powerglide, single exhaust with a cherry bomb, and was mostly gold except the one white fender. Its most outstanding feature, however, was the dash. A previous owner had covered the dash with plaid fur... no kidding. It matched the green vinyl bench seat beautifully.

Re: What were they thinking. (Mods that shouldn't have happened)
When I first bought my '68, the original horizontal grille bar had been cut out, and a portion of a 71-72 grille insert was stuck in its place. The insert was cut into two pieces so that it could be maneuvered into position without having to disassemble anything else, and then it was held in place with zip ties. The original '68 turn signals were then attached to the radiator support with bailing wire. The lenses had been removed since there wouldn't have been enough room for them.

Worst mod of any vehicle by far is turning on county noise on the stereo.
I've also seen a mitsubishi turbo 4 cylinder in a Porsche 911. Blasphemy.

Re: What were they thinking. (Mods that shouldn't have happened)
My FiL was driving his '82 4-door Buick Regal, and someone pulled up next to him with country music from a foreign land playing loudly. He cranked up his own country music, and got a dirty look. I don't listen to country, by and large. It's all personal taste, anyway. I prefer the old stuff that I grew up with if I listen at all. Johnny Cash, Tennessee Ernie Ford, stuff like that. Otherwise, it's blues and rock.

Re: What were they thinking. (Mods that shouldn't have happened)
I think this one was on ebay some years ago. It's not for everybody but that guy was like an ultimate Earnhart fan. The whole inside of the bed and shell is a shrine to Dale. He was really into gadgets and doodads and all things JC Whitney sold.
Belong to anyone here?

Re: What were they thinking. (Mods that shouldn't have happened)
I don't have photos on this computer, but the guy I bought my 81 GMC (truck) from, installed those individual square sun roofs on it back in the 80's.
I hate the stupid things, but the price was right and the rest of the truck was better than most anything else around. Had it been anything else I'd have walked away (I despise sun roofs). I hate them enough that I'm this --><-- close to making my own abortion of 'what where they thinking' by ripping them out and scabbing some sheet metal over the holes even if its crinkled and bent flat stock. Similar to the attached on this van. Mine are flatter and more or less follow the roof line of the truck. Hardly anybody even notices them. Fortunately. |

My Burban as purchased. Notice it still has the interior painted 503 green. My sister said I couldn't park it in her driveway. The grille as removed it was screwed down with a bunch of sheet metal screws. Looked like @#$ if you were less than 10 feet away from it.

Re: What were they thinking. (Mods that shouldn't have happened)
What a strange coincidence. I stopped for some lunch and while I was reading your post I glanced out the window and saw this one across the street. So I ran out and snapped a photo.
As to your question, no they're not mine. They were in the shop for some body work and were owned by a father and son.
