Poly Vs OEM Rubber mounts
A quickie regarding mounts . Who has used what and is a difference in the ride noticeable. I'm thinking the poly mounts are much stiffer and will last the test of time better than rubber oem. I'm trying to get the forum guys to shoot pros and cons of each setup .
Thanks all |

Re: Poly Vs OEM Rubber mounts
I run poly on my hot rod projects. No issues ride wise.

Re: Poly Vs OEM Rubber mounts
i ran poly cab mounts on my 72 super 4x4 and i'll never do it again, it killed all the flex off road. in off camber situations-rocks- the entire cab was trying to flex and the headliner trim was popping and creaking. maybe on a street/racing truck it might be ok but you will feel any vibrations especially if you use poly trans and motor mounts.. just my 2 cents worth.

Re: Poly Vs OEM Rubber mounts
These trucks are not that quiet so a swap to poly will not likely be noticeable. As for longevity, probably not much longer than good quality rubber. Poly will disintegrate very quickly if not mixed with hardener correctly or poured while fresh so you need to monitor for signs of failure. I observed a failure of a batch of bushings made by a small vendor for the BMW aftermarket. They crumbled over a 3 or 4 year period. Many owners had to redo a rather involved task of removing a rear subframe a second time to replace.

Re: Poly Vs OEM Rubber mounts
I used rubber on both the trucks I replaced the cab and radiator mounts . Poly in my opinion is way too stiff . The rubber mounts are designed to absorb some shock . Poly in suspension is used because it doesn’t deform or deflect not something you want on a cab or body mount

Re: Poly Vs OEM Rubber mounts
I was thinking motor mount for some reason. Cab mounts...you need the cushion. If it's a performance truck, and you stitch welded all the cab seams, you will probably get some benefit. But that's for the serious guys.

Rubber for the ride. And Wes at Classic Heartbeat sells some really good ones.

Re: Poly Vs OEM Rubber mounts
I have a set of poly mounts I will give you as soon as my rubber mounts arrive (they are on order). If you like a stiff ride, they are the way to go. They might work fine with a factory suspension, but mine is far from factory and rides a bit hard as it is. The poly mounts made the ride worse.
Just pay the shipping. They are black. They have been in about 1 month. |

Re: Poly Vs OEM Rubber mounts
Poly has absolutely no place on a street car/truck. Been there, tried that. Never again

Re: Poly Vs OEM Rubber mounts
I currently have poly cab mounts and wish I would have went with rubber. If I switch them out I'll need to free up the front bolts as their heads were tack welded to the floor pan at the STL assembly plant.

Re: Poly Vs OEM Rubber mounts
Couldn't agree more. Did it in a previous build because racecar and it killed the street manners.
