1971 C30 camper remodel
I did a little remodeling on the 71 Franklin Motorhome in the last few weeks. Not the kind of remodel that would make it into a car hauler either. Here are some before pictures.

It still isn't completed fully, but it is back together and functioning. Here are some after pictures with the new red oak floor, some pine bead board trim, and a little paint.

That thing is awesome; I would love to have one of those when I retire. I had a chance at one not long ago and my wife said “If we get a motor home I want a newer one” Guess I'm retiring alone. LOL

Nothing quite as beautiful as a tri-color 1971 shag carpet! Everybody told me that "shag" is coming back in style. Not in my camping rig it won't!

That is really cool da-burb, and I like all the updates. I'm curious as to the bathroom in your rig--does it have one and if so, is it one of those where you shower in the bathroom itself (wet bath)? Also, is the pass-through to the cab big enough that adults can climb back and forth?

There's a bathroom in there?
There's a lot of room in that, I'm going to have to look for one of those for myself. By the way, what is the gas milage in one of those things? I can't believe that it would be that great. Todd |

There is a bathroom in there. It has a toilet, shower, and a sink. One fiberglass-avacado green all-inclusive unit. It is on the driver's side of the hallway the first big door at the front. It is for emergencies only because real people don't fit in one of these. This one does happen to be larger than most though.
The crawl-way between the buckets is large enough for an adult to get back there. It is easiest for the passenger to get there because the steering wheel is in the way for me. Plus I worry about the "perfect" blue console that resides between the 2 buckets. Some day a big butt will crack that lid. I am actually thinking of changing it over to a 67-68 bucket set up without the center back rest(suburban style). The middle buddy seat would make it even easier to get back there. And the gas milage is the same as any big block equiped truck. My first trip to Tennessee last year averaged 10mpg on the freeways doing 75 and 80 mph over the entire 1150 mile trip. Milage is probably better than a newer model with fuel injection. This thing really hauls butt. Thanks for the replies. I'll post more pics when I get the last of the pine up and white washed.

Man, I know where one of those is for a song and the price drops every day. I have been looking at it for awhile and now I may have to take a better look at it.

Bustedup, if you end up not being interested in that one would you pass on the information? I may be in the market for one of these! Thanks.

The last time I was over at da-burb's place he fired up the Onan generator that can power the camper. While inside the camper you couldn't hear or feel that the thing was running.
Bustedup - You better have a long driveway if you want something like this. With the carrier on the back the sucker is over 25 feet long!

Joe, you mean this interior? with no rips or tears in the seats, no damage whatsoever to the console? Looking pretty much like they back did in 1971?
Matt, this one happens to be 29.5' front bumper to back. |

I believe that model was made by Open Road. I think they are sweet too! I don't have that one though. ChrisH just got a 1968 Open Road and he had a trashed 1967 model a few years back.
