Question on wheel/tire sizes for stock 71 c10
Hi everyone - new C10 owner. I have a 1 owner completely stock original c10 long bed custom- 3 on the tree, 307, front disc brakes. Learning as i go but its a wonderful truck.
I really love the plain looking slots wheel and tire size setup on the one from the dazed and confused Cheyenne movie truck but i have no idea what size they are. I am thinking they are a 15" rim (maybe 15x8.5?) but im no expert and I know that 14" slots won't fit my truck as i tried (wouldn't clear the brakes). If anyone has any idea what the rim size and tire size would be on this truck I would greatly appreciate it! This is the truck for reference: https://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_26098-...enne-1972.html |

Re: Question on wheel/tire sizes for stock 71 c10
I know those are aluminum slot mags, 5 lug in 71 of course. I have 15 inch wheels on my truck that's a 1970 and they clear the drums and all. I know 15 inch wheels were stock on C10s until at least 1987. The Rally wheels for 4x4s were 15x8 from 73-87.

Re: Question on wheel/tire sizes for stock 71 c10
The 5x5 slots are kinda hard to find the dazed and confused truck looks like they could have been a 7 inch rim I think a 8 or 8.5 looks good on these trucks..
Good luck on the search.

Re: Question on wheel/tire sizes for stock 71 c10
Some notes, 71 C10.
This truck’s original wheels are 15” x 6”; painted 521 white; and stamped GM 71. These take five lug nuts each for 1/2-20 threads. This truck’s original tires were regular production option (RPO) PV5; H78-15/B Highway Bias Tubeless tires. H78-15 tires are equal to 225/75-15. Double white wall 235-75-15 tires were installed onto this rebuild. This truck’s original steel valve stems are stamped SCHRADER TR 416. But perhaps difficult to find replacements based on the stamps; tried once, wrong size.

This my 71 GMC 3/4 ton 8 lug with 16x8 Ultra 50 wheels with 235 16 tires.
You don't want wheels wider than 8 inches on these trucks if you want them to look right.

Re: Question on wheel/tire sizes for stock 71 c10
Wow awesome responses really appreciate everyones advice on this topic (im learning about this truck as a I go from aircooled vws to this (big change).
So good to know 15" slot rim will fit the stock setup thats the look i want i dont want a huge rim. Thanks for the heads up on the stock setup i have stock 15" factory steel wheels they are very thin and i have some nos bias ply on right now just as a placeholder. Im thinking now to look for a set of 15" aluminum slots (5 lug since that is what i have) since they would clear the brakes that are no wider than 8 or 8.5" and then i can figure out the tire from there with the height of the sidewall. |
