Thanks. I will need to go over it again with the wash mitt but I can do that here at home.

Thanks!

First actual tow job for the Dually...

Not sure what the official name is for the paint but I am going to need to find out for sure.
.
If the paint code is 517, It's Maroon Metallic.

I watch enough Junkyard Digs and Thunderhead289 videos to know what an Iowa farm truck can look like, that one's a pearl

Thanks Gentlemen.

The paint doesn't look to me like it has any metallic in it. It looks like it's listed as 4517AA on the SPID. I will have to double check it in the morning.

That would make it a special order color. Maybe compare it to #67 Burgundy Poly from the '69 car line?

Beautiful Truck, same color as the one I bought new in the fall of 68, mine was pretty low optioned with just gauges , step bumper, with the 250 and 3 on the tree. You don't get much for $2160.00 out the door, as I remember those 68.00 a month payments weren't always easy back then. I understand that was low option color also..

It may be the same.

I know my eyes aren't the best any more but if it has metallic in it it must be really fine. I polished a couple of places and I will check them out in the sun in the morning.

I hear you on the payments. I bought a new Buick in 1965. I was making $1.75 an hour. Luckily the wife was working at that time too.

The paint was one of the reasons I wanted this truck so bad. I have always wanted a maroon one.

The carb was leaking gas pretty bad so I decided to pull it off and see what was going on with it. None of the bolts or assembly screws were tight on it. I was glad the nuts on the mounting bolts were not tight because this is what I found when I removed the carburetor from the manifold.

I cleaned everything up and went ahead and mounted an old carburetor that I had on it. I gently tightened the mounting nuts up just enough so that the gasket would seal. The goal at this time is to just get it running good enough to be able to move it around the yard. I put the clear filter on it temporarily so I could see if I did a good job cleaning the tank out. So far, so good. It idles really good and makes no strange noises.... .. I will go ahead and rebuild the original two barrel, and I have another manifold if I need it.

I am going to swap out the wheels/tires tomorrow with some 17" ones I have so that I can get the stock wheels blasted, primed, & painted and get some new tires mounted on them.

Leon,
I have successfully removed many of those "skinny" studs, never broke one..
I used vice grips, patience, and penetrant oil.
I always tapped those blasted holes that carbon up and installed set screws...
This carb heating technology went away in the early 70's, thankfully!!!

I hope I have as good of luck as you do. I ordered a kit for the original carb today

Amazing that it started right up!. I had no idea that was a factory color, or even close to one. I like the blackwalls and hubcaps.

I have had some delays but I am pretty much ready to put it in the shop for the winter and get serious about it. I bought an '04 big block Suburban to put my snow plow on and I have spent quite a bit of time updating it and getting it ready. Also getting everything around the place ready for winter.

Also had a 1/2 ton LWB frame that I needed to shorten so I could put the short bed box on it that I have. I just finished that up yesterday.

I was kind of surprised at that too. It will be put back together just like I got it. It won't be a show truck but it will be a nice driver....

Lots of near show trucks out there anyway. Even mine's a little too nice to use as a truck. Have to be careful with anything I haul in the bed. But for the first 20+ years I had it, I'd just throw all kinds of stuff back there, and not worry about bed floor, bed sides, and tailgate scrapes and dings.

Yeah, that is why I built the Black Dually as a work truck. I have hauled all kinds of stuff in it already.
