Temp Sensor Wiring

How many wire go to a stock temp sensor gauge. I replaced my temp sensor & have a gauge dash. I have a few questions...

How many total connections are there to the gauge? 2 or 3?

If there are 3 total connections, (there are only 2 connections on the printed circuit), does the third go from the top/center of the temp sensor to one of the other 2 possible connection points on the back of the dash?

There is little original wiring left in my truck, so its kinda hard to tell.

Outside of the gauge case grounded to the gauge housing, there are only two connections and on the stock wiring they are through the printed circuit.
One is 12 volt ignition and the other is the signal from the gauge sending unit.
