Re: 1968 Chevrolet CST Survivior.

I have wanted to convert the factory AC/heater to just heater. I can not stand how bulky and ugly the factory AC box is.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet CST Survivior.

I pulled the factory AC/heat out of my 68 end of summer 2023. I just bolted in a piece of wood to seal cab from engine heat.

Yesterday I pulled the wood out and cleaned the firewall. I leaned the Heater only box has two bolt holes that correspond to the AC/heat box. I bolted in the heater only Box to see what will be needed to make the change. It is not going to as bad as I thought.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet CST Survivior.

Trying to find the correct heater core today. The new 1 from napa is aluminum and the tanks are to big for the stock clamps. I will post pics.

As far as install of the heater only box will require a couple holes drilled, and trimming a hole to allow flap door.

I am not building a big dollar truck just wanting heat and defroster for occasional morning drives. It would be easier to put a "hotrod" aftermarket heater in truck but I like the factory controls in the dash. I am wanting to do the factory heater only conversion to see how it goes.

NON A/C heater core is GM 3015169. OER makes a copper/brass replacement.

Thank you,
I found 2 places that sell a copper/brass online. Calling to verify they have in stock. I will post details when I get 1.

Here is a pic of my original one vs the new aluminum one that is not going to work.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet CST Survivior.

More heater conversion.

I made a filler plate to cover firewall hole.

I ordered the correct heater core.

Fire wall holes, trimming and flange flattening. Factory AC to heater only

Now to clean/paint and install new parts.

This was a fun project. I'm in AZ. Heat and defroster is nice a couple weeks/months out of the year. Will post pics after all installed. Just a dude having fun in the garage...

Progress.

Extra holes in firewall plugged. Gasket on heater boxes.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet CST Survivior.

Installed. Heater hoses and power wire to switch is next. I am so happy without the AC heater box. The heater only is much less obtrusive!
