White vs. Chrome
My Dad's truck is a 1972 551 copper poly K10 with white cab and D89 white pin stripes. It had a white front bumper, and a custom white channel rear bumper. It also had white D29 mirrors, and later it had custom white spoke wheels. It basically had a "white" theme going on. It's currently in a "bastardized" state of faded metallic light blue, which I intend to, someday, paint it back to the original color. I'm just not sure of which direction to go with the accessories, white or chrome.
I'd like to take a poll to see what others prefer seeing the copper poly with, white or chrome. I'd also like to hear preferences on wheel choices for each theme, like chrome, polished aluminum, plain aluminum, or white on steel wheels. I'm having a difficult time of finding 18" steel wheels. I like the look of 18s with a 33" tire. Post some photos of yours, what you've seen at truck shows, or what you've seen online. Thank you! *I forgot to mention that it's a Z62 Custom Deluxe. Re: White vs. Chrome
I’m in the process of swapping the white mirrors and bumpers to chrome on this truck, so that’s my vote.

Re: White vs. Chrome
Reminds of me of when I had my frame on jack stands in the front and the rear bumper on blocks while I removed all of the drivetrain and suspension.
Yeah, I can see the improvement chrome could make with your truck. Thanks for your response, and photo. |

Re: White vs. Chrome
This thread may help.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=6131255 I'm usually all for white bumpers on K models but the copper poly is so glamorous it probably needs the chrome bumper on the front. And the tires need to have lots of side wall to look right.

Re: White vs. Chrome
I tend to prefer the painted bumpers, but the copper color does look good with chrome

Re: White vs. Chrome
White top and wheels go well with Medium Bronze, as well as the chrome bumpers and stainless mirrors.

Re: White vs. Chrome
I can't decide either Most times I'd choose chrome, but white sure suits the 511 too. Hmm.

Re: White vs. Chrome
White bumpers ✔️
White mirrors ✔️ White steel wheels ✔️ Personally I think ‘Shiny’ paint colors like gold, copper, etc. look nice with white accents. I find the chrome accents compete with the shiny paint. Exception: Silver - silver & chrome is a very sharp look. Excited to see pictures of what you go with, and for the copper paint to come back.

Re: White vs. Chrome
HO455, It's hard not to like that truck with whatever it has. ...and with New Mexico plate, interesting. It looks like south central part of the state. Thank you for the post.
1970cstblazer, That's a badass Blazer! I purchased those same mirrors to give them a try. ...something between the sport mirrors and camper mirrors in size. I think it's the trim that leads in well to chrome bumpers front and back. Thank you all for your posts! I had asked three of my friends, and they all suggested chrome instead of the white theme. I was leaning maybe 60/40 towards going with the white like original, and that's about what the poll is currently at. If it were a Cheyenne, then without a doubt I'd be going back with chrome. But it's not, it's a Custom Deluxe. The current wheel/tire combo isn't exactly to my liking, but those worn out tires actually measure 33". I have 35" tires to mount onto those 20" wheels, but I'm leaning towards lowering it a bit and going with 33s on 18s with a white steel wheel. Get this... I parked it in the front driveway in 2019, and had it ready to test drive in 2024. ...and that was mostly with drivetrain upgrades. I did have to replace the turn signal, replace body bushings, install shoulder belts, redo the tail light harness, refurbish the rear view mirror, and install the fender badges. I get so many compliments and thumbs up that made it all worthwhile. But now I have to do the body work. Last edited by Dashman; 11-12-2024 at 12:05 PM. Reason: Corrected spelling, added photo. |
