Re: Eliminate draft tube options

it makes sense that the return from filter hole would feed a main oil gallery. by the lump cast into the block there, the longitudinal raised area, I gotta say thats a main oil gallery. it would get the filtered oil.

Re: Eliminate draft tube options

Well gentlemen (and any ladies) I've been gone for four months, or I should say my engine was gone for four months, yet again. As you may or may not recall in Post # 427 I admitted to my screw up regarding the use of a distributor that was inadvertently not fully seated into the oil pump. That little screw up cost me a metric $hit ton of money and four months of total time.

I sent the engine back out to California to my engine builder to have him survey the damage. In the end, the crank needed polished, cylinders were already at 30 over but had to be bored out to 60 over resulting in new pistons and rings, new main bearings, new rod bearings, and two new hydraulic lifters. I sent the engine to him on December 6th and just got it back this past Tuesday....UGH

The engine was delivered by FedEx ground at 12:30pm on Tuesday and by 1:30pm on Tuesday, this is what was accomplished. Today my son came over and we wrestled the transmission and drive shaft in. This week will be occupied with re-routing the fuel line (change my mind over the past four month) and finalizing all the wiring. I have a series of car shows that I'm preparing the truck for in May (May 17th, 24th, and 31st). Wish me luck, hopefully there aren't any oncoming trains now that I see light at the end of the tunnel.

This right here is the definition of commitment. I will sacrifice a Honda to the Gods of Mechanical Things in your name.

Re: Eliminate draft tube options

Well, the engine is back in the truck. I have 90% of the accessories and sensors installed and wired in. I used a remote oil pressure gauge to ensure I had oil pressure this time when my son started the engine from the cab. Shortly after this video ended, there was a puff of smoke and the smell of burning rubber. My worst fears were set aside when I found that the hose on the remote oil pressure gauge had been resting against the headers and melted.

Tomorrow, I will wire in the correct oil pressure sensor so that won't be an issue. I need to mess with the idle speed and get the carb dialed in. Then the work of re-assembling the front end starts (inner fenders, outer fenders, fender support braces, grille, and finally the hood.

Here is a quick video of the engine starting for the first time, this time around.
