Re: 1966-81 Chevy H/J Series
Still looking good.
Nice truck and a great work horse to boot. Do you have any plans to paint it someday?

Re: 1966-81 Chevy H/J Series
I believe I told this story a time or two before, but a local pool construction company once had an IH Detroit powered flat bed for sale at a great price, but I was more interested in the 7500 Single Axle Dump they had. Problem was it was not for sale yet, but maybe soon. I left my number and they called a year or two later. Went to see it and learned it was a '79 model, Low Miles with a 5 & 2 and Air Brakes. I always thought it was a 6V-53, but once I opened the hood I saw a 3208 Cat. Well even though it had a great price of only $4000, without it being a Detroit, I let it pass, lol.

Yes I do have “plans” to paint the truck, but I have a lot of other projects I am working on also. Painting the truck is not high on the list yet. I do have the truck in good useable condition. Steve.

Re: 1966-81 Chevy H/J Series
Right, the basic reason for passing on it, lol. I did once own a '67 7500 with a 6V-53. Detroit's are a lot like Harley-Davidsons. You either love them or hate them.

Re: 1966-81 Chevy H/J Series
“You either love them or hate them”. So true. I have driven trucks with 3-53,4-53,6v-53
6-71,8v-71 and 6v-92 engines. I still love a 6-71 under full load at 1800-1850 RPMs the best. Another picture of my HV70 from back in May. The stump was all my John Deere 410 loader could lift. With the tail gate down it’s a great brush hauler.

Re: 1966-81 Chevy H/J Series
I have. When ever I need a Detroit sound boost I start with some sound from there.

Re: 1966-81 Chevy H/J Series
I have been building an ecology block retaining wall behind the shop. 7 loads so far, 7 2400 lb. blocks per load.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

Happy New Year to you as well! The Chevy looks like it can handle that weight no problem..

Re: 1966-81 Chevy H/J Series
Thanks Bob. 7 of the ecology blocks weigh about the same as 6 yds of 5/8’s crushed rock.
The HV70 has been a great truck for me. I hauled off the last load of brush for the year today. Put the tailgate back up and am ready to start hauling dirt after the 1st of the year. Steve.
