They always had them at the "All Truck Nationals" show in Riverside, Missouri. It was really popular with contestants and spectators alike....

Re: Burn out Contest....?

Always fun watching people beat on their rides . My thought on this it keeps the some of the idiotic burnouts at the show exit gates to a minimum

I like them. Something that always stimulates my long gone teenage years, doughnuts and burnouts in the high school parking lot before school with my buddies.

I still enjoy a good smoke show in my Camaro from time to time.

I think the freestyle type burnout contests are very cool. Folk purposely build burn out rigs just for these shows/contests. It's like a combination of drifting and doing burnouts all in the same confined space.

Those that tend to want to keep the vehicle stationary, chock the front wheels and use the steel plate under the back wheels are just smoke shows IMO...little driver skill involved.

What I find hilarious and cringing at the same time though is when someone attempts a burnout using a manual transmission and inadvertently smokes the clutch!

Re: Burn out Contest....?

Ill be the fuddy duddy, I dont care for burn out contests. But we all like different things so there is that. Of course when I was a kid we did the burn outs but not in any sort of contest mode and seldom did what I would call a smoke show. I did it once in my AMX on my old tires because I finally saved up enough to get Radial TA's.

Indeed. There were many people standing in harm's way. We used to street race, but we took it way out in the boonies where innocent bystanders wouldn't get hit. And none of that squirrelly circle stuff.

Re: Burn out Contest....?

#1 - obligatory burnout shot when your car is in a magazine.

#2 - what happened when I put street tires from ebay on my car in order to run a class with a DOT tire requirement.

Other than that - no.

Re: Burn out Contest....?

Funny story about that first photo.

I guess I had never done a burnout on clean pavement before.

After the burnout shot the photographer had me drive to a different area and then circle around until he had the view he wanted.

The slicks left these two black marks the whole way, even though I was only driving about 3 mph.

You can see them in this photo, and see where he photoshopped them out from behind the car for publication.

Re: Burn out Contest....?

I remember a friend of mine who worked at a tire store telling me about someone frying their tires at an intersection. He and the boss heard it. The boss said, "They're playing our song!".
