Manual to Auto swapÂ…

I’m starting to plan an update to a 1986 ish K10 and was hoping to get some feedback and options.

The current config is a well worn JY Gen3 5.3 with a SM465/NP208 combo(sachs 1050 with oe 11”.. seemed to hold up okay). The gear ratio is 3.08 on 33” tires. It sees occasional fire roads, nothing hard on the driveline.

I have a rebuilt 2005 Gen3 4.8 and a 2WD 4L80e. I also have a few P59 ecu’s laying around and will source the appropriate harness.

Questions:
Is there a difference between the NP208 I have or using a NP241c?
VSS if I use the 2wd tranny as is, can I use the vss from the tranny or is this the reason to use a NP241c w/vss?
OK, should I source a 4wd 4L80e, gonna go thru the 2wd tranny anyway and I’m sure I can core out to a 4wd unit.
Can I reuse my case xmember, not afraid of a few mods and moving.. or am I just better off buying?
Anything else major in this general area? I’ll be using a Dakota Digital dash and will get speed from the ecu.

I assume the t-case is gonna need to move back and I will need new shafts.

And I might change the 3.08Â’s to 3.73Â’s but that is gonna be last.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Manual to Auto swapÂ…

Thought of a reason for using a vss at the tcase

Hi to low gear would mess up shifts.

This puts me looking for a 4wd tranny.

Given this is light duty wondering if I should move to a 4l60e and a 27 spline np241c w/vss. Gotta save space and cash.

Re: Manual to Auto swapÂ…

I would contact Novak Adapt in UT or Advance Adapters in CA and ask your above questions.
Not apples to apples but my 98 Wrangler has a LS6/4L60E/241R swap. I got all the parts from Novak. It's been 15 years and no issues.
For your 241C I would consider a wide chain kit and short shaft conversion.
The Novak kit for adapting the 4L60E to the Jeep 241 requires the trans to be torn down to replace the stock output shaft with a Novak shaft that matches the Jeep 241 input. The Novak kit also includes a reluctor wheel on the shaft for your VSS. The adapter has a tapped hole for a stock GM VSS sensor. The Jeep TC has a manual shift lever. Don't know about a GM 241.
