700r4 governor info

Just replaced my nylon governor gear and noticed what looks like a missing chunk of metal in the governor shaft. Did not find any shrapnel. What am I looking at and is it a problem? The old gear teeth were fine, it had snapped off at the gear neck right at the pin that holds it in place. I’m new to transmissions so thx in advance!
