Air bags or new coil overs?

I'm looking for a little help from anyone who's delta with this?

Our 1969 C10 has the coil springs and trail arms. I have a 16' camper that really isn't too heavy but squats the rear end of the pickup badly. What would the fix be for replacing the springs if they have weakened? Or what air bags would I put under her if that is my only option?

I used D2600 bags in place of the coil springs on my '66 C10, they're great for keeping the truck level when hauling or towing.

Is that a model years specific? Who makes the D2600?

Air Lift company makes them, and cups to mount them are easy to find. The bottom will bolt directly to the trailing arm, the lower bag mount has a centered bolt hole. The upper will need a mounting cup to make room for the air lines/fitting and to have a center bolt hole to mount via the original hole in the frame.

Hey astronaut, I went through your build thread on the '66, very nice truck. How do you like the ride with the air bags with no trailer or load in the bed? What is the lift/drop range of that set?

The ride is pretty firm due to the shocks being valved too tight for when it's not loaded. When its loaded (camper shell or hauling/trailering) it rides great and the shock valving is just right to keep the added rear weight well controlled. I need to swap to adjustable shocks so it'll ride good when empty or loaded.


I haven't measured how high it'll go, the shocks currently keep it from going very high and definitely not all the way up to stock height, but there is probably 8" of lift from on the bump stop with no air to full lift, but again that's limited by my shock length and not the bag itself. I usually run it about 1.5-2" off the bump stop, or a little more when towing.
