1979 GMC Street Coupe... Maybe

Grabbed this ol' gal today and drug her home. I believe it's a 1979 GMC Street Coupe. The SPID was missing, but all the parts lead me to believe it's legit. Still waiting to hear back from GM Heritage on a build sheet.

It's got the painted bumpers with impact strips, the special grille, red carpet, and one sport mirror was also left in the interior. The doors and fenders were replaced at some point in it's life, and the rest of the truck had a repaint at some point as well, but the new painter wasn't too good, so they left some of the original 5 side stripes inside the door jams and painted over them.

It's missing a few parts here and there, but the frame is solid and there are plenty of good parts left, so I think it'll be worth a rebuild either way. 350/350 combo, trans looks good, but the engine definitely has some water in it where someone had yanked the dang dristributor and must have left the hood up. I'll get some more pictures soon and update as I find out info.

On a side note, I started a "GMC Street Coupe" group on Facebook if anyone is interested. There seems to be so few of these trucks left, I thought it might be good to have a source of info for them.

Re: 1979 GMC Street Coupe... Maybe

So apparently the side stripes varied a little between the stepside and the fleetside. I had been looking at all sorts of pics online trying to determine if my truck is a legit Street Coupe as it's missing the SPID in the glovebox and mine only has one yellow stripe on the bed.

Most trucks I've seen online for 79 were stepsides and they seemed to only have three stripes that went all the way from the end of the bed to the grille. Then I zoomed in on these pics of two fleetsides I found online and they appear to have 5 stripes (2 yellow, 1 orange, and bottom two red almost blend in with the lower Carmine Red paint making it hard to see) and they look like they stop in the curve of the front fenders.

While I was digging around on my truck yesterday I realized it had been repainted at some point in it's life and the painter wasn't very good. They left remnants of the original 5 stripes in my door jams. Pretty hard to see in these pics, but the old stripe decals are still there. I'm thinking this truck has to be a real Street Coupe, all the special parts are there, and I don't think someone would have went to all this trouble to fake it back in the 80's. First three pics are reference, rest are of my truck.

Thanks man, yeah I'm super stoked. Got the GM build sheet from GM Heritage today so it's confirmed Z77 Street Coupe package. 1978 though, I wasn't paying attention and wrote 79 when I made the thread. I'll start a build thread on it now.
