Wilwood rear disk help

Good afternoon all,

I have a built 12 bolt with a wilwood rear disk brake kit. When I went to install the calipers aren’t lining up with the rotors. They are offset too far inward toward the housing. This creates the issue where the only way I can shim it will make the problem worse. I’ll attach a pic for reference.

Any tips are appreciated!

Stock axles? Disc fully seated on the axle?

Aftermarket axles, not sure of the specifics because I bought the axle already built. I pulled them to install the parking brake/disk brake bracket and they’re nice and beefy but no brand or anything on them. The calipers are fully seated on the axle flange face.

Re: Wilwood rear disk help

.

I did a quick Online search. Found a discussion regarding wilwood kit for rear brakes on some other platform but, in it they discussed the kit was engineered to work with 2 different "offsets" or axles. Simply swapping the mounting brackets from side to side (and flipping them over as a result) was the method of switching between the 2 specs.

Another discussion had the installer grinding down the mounting bosses to move the caliper where needed and yet another discussion had the installer shimming the rotor out slightly with a spacer.

In one instance, the installer found the caliper itself was out of spec and had wilwood send him a new one. He found this by comparing the two calipers with detailed and precise measurements.

Not sure any of that applies in your case.

Hth,

-Kevin

Sweet thanks for that. I’ll try flipping sides to see if that’ll work, I don’t know if it will with how the parking brake cable is routed, past that I’ll either have to grind or run it.

Re: Wilwood rear disk help

I had the same issue with my CPP set up. I had a machinist buddy takeoff I believe .030 off of the mounting brackets. I am wondering if the mounting jigs at GM wasn't getting a little worn when they welded the ends on the axle tube. Both sides were the same on mine.
