Disc Brake Conversion

So today’s task was to start the Disc Brake Conversion on my truck.
Man , am I glad my son is here to help.
Sure it COULD be done alone, but two makes the task MUCH easier with two knowledgeable people working on it.
I’m using the CPP kit from Summit, it has MOST everything you need.
(What I say next is based on me using the existing factory brake lines, and not new ones)
If you use this kit, you’ll need to get adapter fitting for the flexible rake Lines in the kit, to fit the Factory lines.
The fittings are 7/16-20 (male side, fits factory brake lines), and 3/8-24 female side, fits into the flexible brake lines).
There’re also adapting fitting to the factory “proportioning valve”, and if y’all need those specs, I can get them.
I’m going to post a couple before/after pictures as we go

Re: Disc Brake Conversion

Or you could just use Duralast brake hose 88466 that’s what I used on my 68 worked perfectly

https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=818077 Grumpy is still helping with these trucks RIP

The adapters for the portioning valve were real easy to find at my local NAPA

Thanks for the tip.
We have the kit 90% done.
Down low, We just have to put the hoses on, and then change out the MC and Prop valve.
Another update photo

I stand corrected.
I guess I had a Brain Cramp with dry fitting the hoses to the Factory Brake line.
They DO fit WITHOUT an adapter fitting.

I apologize for jumping the gun and posting that they were needed

Guess they must have changed the hose in the kit. I bought CCP for my 68 last year and the hose supplied did not fit that's why I used the Duralast . Glad to hear they are listening to customers . I called their tech line and spoke with the rep and he said it had been an ongoing problem.

IIRC, you need to file the hose ends or brackets to match if you use the 88466, seems like I did that

Yes a little touch up where the hose mates to the bracket very minor .

Re: Disc Brake Conversion

What type of wheels do you plan to use?

Just wondering. I'm not sure all types of 6 lug factory wheels will work...

I run American Racing Outlaw II wheels.
I actually thought about your concern before ordering the kit, but if I’m correct, 70 and prior factory steel wheels won’t clear the Caliper, without a spacer, but 71 and later wheels will clear.
All in all, the hardest part of this conversion, was getting the Ball Joints loose. Heat and Hammer are the ticket to success.
Once the Ball Joints are loose, it’s a simple task, aside from getting the right brake lines for the upgraded MC and Prop Valve

Re: Disc Brake Conversion

If they're 15", 4 nub steelies will fit, 3 nubs will require a spacer.
Not sure if it's a problem with 16,17" wheels
