I would like to touch-up the black paint on my trim pieces.

First, can I do it without removing the trim?

Second, what kind of paint to use?

Thanks. I posted some pics when I joined the first part of July.

This board is awesome and I have a bunch of questions. Unfortunately without the search function, I either have to start a new thread or wait until someone else does. Then I make sure to print out the responses so I don't have to find the thread again.

The ones that I have redone I used semi-gloss--worked fine.

Some people get a laugh out of this, but a black Sharpie is a quick and easy way to touch up the trim pieces if you don't need to paint the entire thing. I've been doing it for years, touching up scratches, etc., and although the sun will fade it over time, it's quick and easy to touch it up again.

The best thing I have ever used is pin stipe tape. Forget about taping and painting it. I redid the trim on my burb 8 years ago and it still looks as good then as it does now. It cost about $35 to have someone cut the tape down to the sizes I needed to do the trim. You wouldn't have to take the trim off to do it, but I did and was able to wrap the tape around the back of each piece 1" and figure there is nothing to hook the tape and pull it off that way.

Also, if you remove it, you could buff it out to where it looks brand new.
You could get the CST/Cheyenne style woodgrain in tape rolls if you wanted to go that route...but I kinda like da-burb's idea.

I used one of the paint pens like you can find at arts/crafts stores(michaels or hobby lobby). the only spot it didn't work on was just under the gas filler -gas takes that stuff off right quick. I masked and rattle canned my tailgait band coz I had it off anyway.
