Re: 71 Blue Jay
So I’m having (been having but avoiding) issues with the external voltage regulator (EVR). I replaced the old one about a year ago because it stoped working. The new one is points style regulator like the old one but it make so much noise. Didn’t think much of it at first but then the noise became sporadic.
I checked the voltage when it’s not making buzzing noise and it a healthy 13.5 or 14.5, can’t remember exactly now. It was good. Turned the engine off and restarted. EVR is now buzzing. The voltage from the brown wire in the EVR jumps between 8.2 & 11.3. The voltage at the red wire of EVR 14.8-15.5. I’ve added lots of grounds, checked all the wires I can and patched and taped. Swapped the alternator. Got a new battery. Still not working correctly. In reading about everyone’s EVR problems on here I’m thinking it isn’t playing nice with my HEI distributor. I may need to run a new hot wire to the distributor. Just ordered a solid state EVR to see if that will work better with the HEI distributor. If not I’ll reluctantly have to upgrade my alternator to a 12SI doohickey.

Re: 71 Blue Jay
Now I'm working on restoring the A/C system and already ordered some parts for an original look. So I have the A6 compressor and original looking hoses. I'll need the newer POA valve that will cycle the compressor on and off as the original was left open for 40 years and has too much dirt in it.
The problem I'm having is compressor brackets. Will the original brackets fit over the headers if I use some spacers? I will need to order some, I only have one of the 100 pieces for bracket set up. I'm also thinking of going with R12 and using the original A/C condenser, after a good clean out. 350 Short Water Pump (5.660") Headers Aluminum Edelbrock Intake (performer I think) A6 compressor Original looking hoses (from LMC)

Re: 71 Blue Jay
Nice to see you're still working away on this one.
If you're going to use the A6 and R12, get a rebuilt POA valve and run it like original. You can also send yours in and have it rebuilt. https://www.classicautoair.com/poa-v...s-cars-trucks/

Re: 71 Blue Jay
A/C system installed and cooling. A digital thermometer showed 28deg at one point in the air box. We will see how it works on the road once it stops raining here.
I did original brackets, except the bottom bracket, found one to work with the headers (Hedman 20110). Had to change out the heater hose inlet on the front of the water pump so the brackets would fit. A6 compressor 58098. I went with POA delete since my POA was full of dirt from being open to the environment for 45 years. R134A. New hoses from LMC. Only two original parts are the condenser and evaporator coils. I know, R134A doesn't like the old style condenser, I'll need to set up an electric fan in front of it to help with cooling it down faster. I may just get a cheap one and wire it with a on/off switch just below the A/C controls. I also ordered some 20% tint and did the door windows to help with keeping the cab cool. And a pic of inside the camper I built on the back. I'm sure I am forgetting something but I will just make another post about it when I remember.
