Boyd's EFI tank on 72 Burb

The frame mounted FI Tech pump crapped out last year. Of course there isn't much available for the Burb. I didn't really trust the ones that said it would fit. Boyd's has dimensioned drawings on their site and the under bed/ side fill looked good. It really wasn't bad to install, I think the crossmember must be different on the pickup though. It would fit the Burb better if the side brackets registered to the rear. Be sure to order the 1.5" fill neck or you get 2". You still have to increase the size of your fill tube and vent to 1.5 and .62. I made sleeves and soldered them on, my brazing skills wouldn't cut it. The Rube Goldberg special is all I could come up with to test the soldering job.

Re: Boyd's EFI tank on 72 Burb

Top of my head it's 18 gal. I wanted more but to get 20 you have to go with plastic. I didn't know if the Burb would be a fitment challenge and it's real hard to weld something on to plastic.
On another note that I meant to post.
They offer a "rollover" valve option when you buy the tank. I didn't take it because I figured it was a road vehicle and that was a mistake. Put it all together and went to the gas station, opened the cap to a huge whoosing sound. We couldn't figure it out at first because I had the injection with the stock tank. Turns out that I uses one of the emissions line for a return and just hooked the other one back up cause it was there. That acted as the tank vent and is probably why I had a fuel smell sometimes. 99.99% of the time the rollover valve acts as the tank vent, you don't want the other .01%. I used the 3/8npt for the return line and used their 1/2 npt rollover. I bought it with the pump and sender from them, it's nice stuff. I would also recommend buying the install kit they offer, it's much easier than chasing the pieces. I wish I had made a drill jig instead of the train wreck hand drilled holes. Somehow you always think it will work this time. Have some 5-6 inch 3/8-16 bolts handy so you can hang the tank on the mounts while you connect it.

Re: Boyd's EFI tank on 72 Burb

That's great advice and insight, thank you. I've been thinking about a new tank for the burb for some time, just really wanting a 'little' more capacity since I'm running a 468 big block. It doesn't take long to consume the 20ish gallons in the factory tank. There is a local shop that will make one for me but dang...they are proud of their work. In the back of my head, I think one day when I win the lottery, I'll throw a Duramax in there. So for now, I just enjoy consuming all the fuel on the planet and thank every Prius on the road for saving all the fuel for me.

I installed a 40gal. tank from an '88 in my '71. Had to move the crossmember toward the rear.
