So the light shines straight into the edge of the lenses with that dome on top?

Yes. Here are more pictures of the assembly.
The dome directs the light into the plastic with the PRNDL letters in it. It keeps light leaks from going in every direction. |

My column originally had caught fire way back before I bought it. I do not have that bracket. So I made my own bulb socket. Works fine
