Bellhousing Help?

I am trying to find a replacement bellhousing to connect an SM465 to a GM 6.2L diesel. My current bellhousing is GM 6263756 but it is bent an I am having a really hard time dialing in the runout.

I tried buying one from Novak, but the unit they sent me had a totally different starter opening that will not fit my starter. See the photo below. I'm hesitant to buy a used bellhousing out of fear it might be just as bent as the one I have currently.

Does anyone know of a reproduction unit that has the starter cutout shaped like my current 6263756 bellhousing?

Re: Bellhousing Help?

GM cast literally millions of the 460 486 bellhousings to cover the larger flywheel and clutch in 1970's light trucks, both 6 and 8 cylinder. The problem is the Muncie SM 465 truck transmissions had a 5 1/8" (5.125") front bearing retainer, so you can't use it with the smaller car transmissions.

Several on Ebay;

Re: Bellhousing Help?

Have you seen anyone who is producing that bellhousing design new?

I have not had good luck with used bellhousings in the past. I guess I could just keep buying them used until I get one that isn't bent but I'd prefer to start with a known good own if possible

Re: Bellhousing Help?

never seen a bent aluminum bellhousing, they usually just crack. I probably have several of those laying around in good shape.

Re: Bellhousing Help?

Real easy to tell if they're cracked or not by the ring tone in them

You can buy spacers for this application. i ran a Super T10 with a truck bellhousing.
